I have lost several chickens to our local Bob cat!

It comes all times of the day and my husband even chased it and it grabbed the chicken and ran with it anyway!!

Our chickens can't free range anymore and the chicken yard looks like a fortress, with tall fencing and top and bottom hotwire!! So far it has worked and I haven't lost anymore chickens.

Not real sure what's getting mine either ..

.... i wanna game cam ......

i live in southeastern ohio. monroe county. monroe county has more bobcats then anywere else in the whole state. but i can assure you i am NOT going to be loosing anymore of MY chickens. mine are locked up until the bobcat is gone!

I raise alpacas. They had been alerting at night for afew weeks, but we never saw anything. Then we lost a chicken--taken off in the woods. She had been freeranging in a wooded area on my neighbors property. We also heard bobcat noises in the woods. One night I go into the alpaca barn to feed (6/7ish but still dark out) and I hear growling, but in the time it took to register I still manged to go in and turn the light on. I turn and look at my feed stall and there is a Mountain Lion! Ok, it was a bobcat, but we'd just watched a Discovery show the night below on ML attacks on humans. I back out slowly and bellow for my bf to get the gun. The alpacas were, fortunately, in an upper paddock far from the barn, but sthe only way for the bc to get out without going further into the paddock was through the door I just left. Bf FINALLY comes out and I'm sure the cat is gone, but we go into the catchpen at the front of the barn and its still right where I left it. We, bf made a great shot, up a hill and through the bars of the feed stall. It was a beautiful healthy 22# female. I felt so bad, but it had to be done. It turns out, I think, she was being attracted by the rats that had taken up residence behind the feed stall (dirt floor). Udually the chickens clean up spilled feed and the house cats take care of smaller rodents, but we'd been keeping everone locked up, so the rats had blossomed. The bc was providing a useful service, but I couldn't risk an alpaca trying to chase it out and getting attacked instead.

Anyway, this year we've noticed tons extra rabbits and turkeys--usually the bcs and coyotes keep their #s down--and not alot of coyote or bc calls. My neighbor comes over last night and says he saw a Mountain Lion in his yard stalking turkeys last night!!! It has no reason to bug the chickens, pleanty of other small game around, but I have crias (alpaca babies) on the way and MLs regularly take down large game like deer. Argh. And DEC says there are no ML in our area of NY, so w/o photo evidence they won't do anything.

I just hope it decides the fence isn't worth jumping to get to some very fuzzy deer-sized foreign game
