Picking A Bird

As I said I order locally. I have never ordered birds in as it's expensive and I don't want to. Their selection of dual purpose chickens never met my needs so I never ordered from them.
On top of that I do not want baby birds. Turkey poults are fragile, I am looking for a mating pair of whatever bird I decide on then letting them hatch out and brood their own eggs.

Pheasant sell good...Depends on your pens though?

Do you have both meat and egg production birds? You could start another flock of chickens with a different purpose. Or you can pick a heritage breed/rare breed and really focus on breeding to standard.

Or totally different direction, but many people keep them along side chickens, what about rabbits?

I have mixed breed chickens, but I don't want another breed of chicken. Too many people around here already provide them.
Rabbits have been considered, but I decided against them.

My coop is covered. My runs are not. Covered even with clipped wings?
I could use netting to provide covering, I have gardener's netting... it just wouldn't be pretty.
I am willing to make modifications but only if the end is worth the means.

Runs need covering..Netting works. They sell great and weather hardy.
