Mine as about the size of a pencil eraser when I looked. So I am guessing in the first couple of days it quit.

The dark spots couldn't have been good... I've never seen anything like that in a viable egg. My guess from the picture is that it could have been spots of bacterial growth. It would have certainly killed the little guy soon.

I know how you feel. We were all waiting for our duck eggs to hatch, and they were a few days past when we thought they should have hatched, so my dad cracked one to see at what stage they died, and it looked at us and moved and died! Worst experience ever. It was like one day away from hatching too. We didnt know ducks had a longer incubating time.

I'm so glad you posted that picture with the spots, I just found one of my eggs like that today - we go into lockdown tomorrow. Not sure WHAT I should do with it...is there a way I can lock it down and if it explodes keeping it from getting on the other eggs???? or will the chick die in the egg?? I still have a chick in there moving and the dark spots don't move around, is it bacteria?? I only have 5 of these eggs left out of 7 and I all ready think 2 stopped growing..and this is one of the last 3. (One was porous and another cracked and oozed) I need a little chicken advice please!! This is my first hatch and I REALLY want silkie chickens but so far it's not looking good... Could I have just been given "bad eggs"?? Or was it something I did?
