I don't see any ill effects with their feathers. The chicken tell me that they love the pool so I guess when they're panting, I'll be bringing them in with us.

Ha ha...you're not first one to say that. I figured it would be a "must see" to believe post though.

I really didn't give my girls a choice. I just scooped them up, careful to hold their wings closed and slowly lowered them in. At first, I continue to hold the wings while they are in the water. The first time I let go, they kinda freaked out, but every day I repeated the process and each time they relaxed more. By around the third time, they just relaxed and enjoyed. I usually do it when I see them panting and it really does cool them down. It's pretty fun too.

I used to put my bunny in the pool when she was hot too (every afternoon in the summer). She loved it! She would swim around, but her back feet fur held so much air, her back feet would float up if she quit swimming for a second

She also loved hanging out on the top step. Afterwards, she would be nice and cool for the rest of the day

This year we had to buy a new one. They tend to have a 3 year life span, but they are super duper easy to maintain and they are TONS of fun. I'd put in for the write off!
