I got some hot pink "oops" paint at the hardware store for these. I also put a scrap of vinyl flooring on top to make it easy to clean off any poop. You could also make a slanted top to keep them from sitting on top.

I can't do pics, very homemade looking stuff, but I prefer my top to be flat as I have an orp who prefers a flat surface to sleep on. There is some kind of vinyl stuff on top; no problem to keep a tool handy and knock the poop off daily.

There is a down side to everything, even slanted nest box tops.

If I ever actually spend money on a nest box and build one, I will build a rollaway. I think they break eggs by accident (not often, though.)

Not finished yet, but I'm using some old dresser drawers that were thrown out. I'm gluing (liquid nails) 1" support boards inside all the edges\\corners. Two hens should be able to use it at once with plenty of space.
