(PICS@POST #1)Starting a dozen eggs Sunday, Oct 2...any joiners?

I would love to join!!!

I set 5 red comet/silkie, 3 sebright/silkie, 2 old english game/silkie and 2 EE/silkie eggs late Saturday, Oct 1. These eggs are from my backyard flock and noticed the eggs I have been cracking in the pan have been fertile so I thought I would see if any would hatch

If any hatch, I have the 22 of Oct marked down has hatch day.

I'm trying the egg carton hatch and "dry" incubation this time around. And instead of opening the bator to hand turn, I'm elevating the bator side by side with a big book. This is a test run for spring when my daughter wants to hatch chicks for her 4H project.

I ended up setting 3 paint eggs, 6 buff orp eggs and several other silkie eggs of various colors. LOL

Now we WAIT!....and wait...and WAIT.....

Wow!!! Thanks for joining our little group everyone.

Misslady, about that hairline crack...I have hatched out several healthy chicks from eggs with hairline cracks. I ran a light layer of glue over the crack using a glue stick. It never hurts to try. If it doesnt work you can always toss it. Good luck everyone, and plz keep us updated.

Thanks for the advice! I'm going to try that. I had heard of using nail polish, but was hesitant to do it because of all of the chemicals involved with it. The glue sounds like a MUCH better option.

I really want to save it if possible because a few of my other eggs (which were very porous) are looking awfully clear. Thought I would pop them in and hope for the best, but it's not looking too promising on 3 of them. But since they don't stink, I think I'll just wait a couple more days and see how they look then before pitching them. It's been such a fun learning experience! And I already have a second batch ready to come in after this one hatches. Yay!

After a mishap and 5 of my 6 eggs being nocked to the ground from 27th - put servivor egg back under Broody and added 4 more eggs on the 2nd.

All from my Blue orpington Roo - 2 California whites, 3 Buff orpingtons, 1 EE
Thinking about leaving the one servivor under my broody and then moving the oct 2nd eggs to Incubator?? not sure yet - also think I will add 5 more eggs to incubator today. Kinda staggared, so going to read, google and search the best way to do this and hope for the best.

Yea, hehe, very much proud of him - and he is about the main one I have pictures of - just started out on here this morning - and been trying to find the right threads for me and so far this morning he is my main topic. Starting to really get into this hatching thing so I decided to get serious on BYC for all the help I can get - im always google searching questions I have lately about the broody hen and hatching and answers all lead me to BYC - so I decided to sign up and use it. Just hoping that one dirty egg that servived the flooding of nest, feces, and the move to my room will servive the whole thing.

also hoping the other eggs I put in are fertile. coupe more days before I check
