Awww poor wee lady, I am so happy you got her. I have a few 5 yr olds and a 7 yr old they will all live here for their natural lives 💕
You are so right -- our birds deserve to live FULL lives -- not just egg-laying lives. My very first bird was a Partridge Silkie that lived 11 yrs, 1 month, & 3 days before her wee heart gave out! She never was a good layer (Bantams usually aren't) she stopped laying at 5 years old. In the meantime we cycled through 22 backyard chickens and she adapted to all of them, showing where to find good insects and greens, where the best shade was, how to sound the hawk alarm, where to hide, how to use the feed and waterers, plus hen manure has made a fertile compost for our raised veggie beds. Older hens have more productive lives than people think,.
