Picture Of The Week (POW) Information & Submissions

btw, @microchick identified it as a Silver Duck Winged something. OEG
Yeppers, he's a silver duck wing old English game bantam.

I plan to hopefully hatch some more this spring. If my little girls can give me the eggs. They are getting older and I only have one surviving hen at this point that is pure bred while I am up to my eyeballs with roos. I may cross the boys with BBR hens that I have and see what I can get. I do have one SDW hen that has a little something else mixed in with her. She looks SDW but is a bit larger than the pure bred birds.

I agree with you @casportpony, OEGBs are tops!

Mine have always been super friendly and great broodies. I like ponies too, so maybe it's just that I like small animals?
Big bird in a small package and with all the attitude of a big game bird.

More than once I've had to scoop up one of my little boys when he squared off with one of my full sized roosters. It's funny to see but the potential for a bad outcome is scary.

Even funnier to see their reaction to a rooster getting into their run that doesn't belong there. They will pile on the poor boy. Last time it happened I counted 5 OEGB roosters on one standard sized rooster just beating the crap out of him. I opened the gate to the bachelor pen, he shook off the little leaches and ran for his life back into his own pen.

Best bouncers in town.

Two best friends on an evening stroll

This is my alpha hen Lilly, on the right, and Sansa a GLW and former number 4 in my flock on the left. They were the best of friends from the moment Sansa arrived in Feb of 2020. They were never apart. Lilly even helped her to find the best nesting spots (Lilly only lays 1 or 2 eggs a year now). I say this so everyone appreciates how close they were.

This photo is special to me because this is how I will always remember Sansa in my mind. They were just chatting away this day as the sun set, strolling along without a care in the world.

Sansa passed away on New Years Eve. They did not even have 2 years together. It cannot be easy to be the oldest hen in flock. Lilly has seen so many come and go but I'm certain none as terrible a loss as her best friend forever, Sansa.

Attacking velociraptors?

I don't know about that, Here's Snowflake left and Muffins (EEs) right sitting on a pile of eggs.View attachment 2960279
I'm sorry I did not communicate that very well. Hens will definitely co-sit a nest.

In this particular instance, most people would not realize this but those two hens in particular, Peggy and Ivy are not necessarily best friends. That was the origin of my comment.
