Picture thread of my hens!

Wonder if my girls are enjoying a break from the spotlight now the ducklings have took over?

Lacey and Bella are also August on the calendar. Thought they were cute enough to have two months in a row

I never did post any pics of Lacey whilst she was sitting on her second lot of eggs. She give me a couple of mini heart attacks. She would sometimes randomly show up and I would be like "oh no somethings wrong", I would go to her nest and there would be no eggs, but then I realiSed she was being smart and covered them to stop anything spotting them.

Oh I think the chickens like being in the spotlight. Look at those lovely poses they have.
big_smile.png

Love the calendar page two of my favorites Bella and Lacey. I think Lacey likes being around the chickens more the ducks because she was raised by a chicken. That is sweet that Bella adopted her. She couldn't have asked for a cuter baby.

The little runt is so cute. It still has it's baby feathers I guess it's running a little behind but it will catch up one of these days.

Thanks so much for sharing the pics I really enjoy looking at all of them. Have a great day you made mine.

You will definitely have more than enough photos for a great 2017 calendar : )
I love seeing the photos of the chickens and ducklings together!
Thank you both!! 2017 calendar will be a difficult one if I do it!

So people have said to me to stop overthinking things and just do it. So when I saw some free range hens being advertised near me for £1 each, I decided to not think of all the reasons why I shouldn't be getting more. Instead I contacted the farm straight away and when to pick two girls up. Two then turned to three . Loads of hens had already been cleared and they kept roughly 500 to finish off the food. When I went in the shed I was like the most awkward person ever and was like "I want that one" pointing into an group of tons of hens. Everyone else likes the fully feathered girls but I was like "no I want the bald ones!!". The first one he put in the box escaped whilst we were looking for others so it must have been fate that it did. I love putting my chicken catching skills to the test going after certain ones. I refused to give up and caught the two bald ones I had my eye on. Just as I was thinking I would be happy with two, the more feathered girl squatted infront of me and tripped me up on my way out, so I was like "ok come on then", it didn't take much persuasion! So everyone meet Bea, Pearl and Crystal! I adore them already! I told mam I needed to get them as my others aren't laying as well, but I've chose girls who need a little TLC first, whoops.

Bless your heart you rescued these girls and they look like they are at deaths door. They probably think they did die and went to heaven when they see their new home. They will have plenty of fresh air and sunshine good food and snacks and lots of love. You are a remarkable person.

This brings tears to my eyes I am so happy you saved them.

My husband went to buy a rooster from a farmer. There was pretty ones all strutting around and he noticed one running out of the coop and grabbing food and running back in the coop. He told the farmer I want that one the one that went back in the coop. He told him you dont want that one he has only one eye and he is afraid of everything. He said that is my worst looking rooster I have. When he brought him home he explained to me he wasn't much to look at and he only had the one eye. He wasn't here long before he was strutting around the yard with his girls and proud as could be. I understood why he had bought that one. He needed a home more then any of the other roosters. He lived to an old age here and he was the best rooster we have ever had. His name was Jed and this is a true story.

Thank you! I adore them. The bald ones have it much harder. Usually if they're in good condition they're the top hens and the ones that get to go outside. There was this girl who was in great condition with a huge comb. Was going to get her but I spotted Pearl and that distracted me. Glad I didn't as top hen PL is getting old and I don't want to bring her any competition. Aw thats a sweet story about the rooster. I'm glad you could give him a happy life.

Like mother like daughter! Bella and her mam have been locked in the run today because they're broody again!

One of my keepers out of Lacey's babies. She is called Marnie. Best way to describe her is funny and feisty. She loves a good scrap with Josies boy babies and sees them off even though they are twice her size!

Bella and Orp going broody togeather that's sweet. I hope they got over that it looks like you have a broody breaker. It works everytime.

Marnie is gorgeous and she has that look about her that says I know it too. You can tell she's fiesty too she sure looks like a keeper to me.

Pearl looks like her color is better then the last pictures. Give her lots of protein to help her grow those feathers back. Bless her heart it's going to take a little while to get her healthy again.

Thanks for sharing the pics with us. Have a great day.

"Here love, give es some feathers!" Pearl decided it was a good idea to attack big Orp! Big mistake as orp was too quick for her! I honestly didn't see it coming at all. Only got the second pic as my phone has a setting to take a copy pic like a second later. Pearl was backing down to everyone but then when the biggest out the lot came she decided to pipe up! Luckily everyone else is being quite nice to her as they don't see baldies as a threat!

13895000_10205023313462177_8098852308130888330_n.jpg

First day out for these girls. Honestly don't think pearl has ever been outside, she seemed so taken back by it all. She's a little pig though but guess it will be taking everything she's got to get her feathers back. Bea and Crystal laid an egg though! Crystal has started being a bully to the other two now, but when she met my other hens, she challenged Mya who is absolutely mental (she nearly took the top hens eyes out when she first came, but I fixed it so she couldn't win), so that knocked her down a few pegs and she started being nicer to them again. Love them all but have a special soft spot for Pearl.
