piercings and tattoos for them or against them?

If I go to a grocery store and I am in the checkout line I don't think I am suppose to see the other cashier by looking through my cashiers ear.

I love my tattoos and piercings! Its such a false belief that everyone who gets them is trying to be "different".

how about people who get them just like tattoos and piercings? were not stupid enough to think that most people dont have one or the other.

and i have to wonder how many of you have your ears pierced? Ears are okay right?
i mean, if the lord doesnt like em on your face he probobly wont like em in your ears either, right? Or does he think its prettier there than anywhere else? Heaven knows ive seen many a god-fearing woman with some nice pretty ear candy to match her church hat. (<this is not patronizing, i really love seeing people in their fancy church clothes). I just think its awfully convenient that piercings are OKAY as long as theyre in a pretty spot.

What about other religions? alot of religions and cultures require their followers to have crazy tattoos and piercings. To me its beautiful and a wonderful representation of where that person comes from, and i feel the same way with people who believe in the bible and choose not to have them.

and as far as it being hazardous to health and "judgement".

come on dude. seriously. we could go on for DAYS about the crap people do that is way more dangerous and unhealthy. like eating cheeseburgers. My dad got hepetitis from eating a cheeseburger once. true story.
Legaly getting a tattoo or piercing is no different from getting a shot at the doctor. needles are to be new and opened in front of client. I think your argument is completely invalid, as i have never had a piercing done with a "gun".

I totally understand why people would be against it for religious reasons or just not liking them, and i think most opinions here are valid... but the lack of sound judgement thing totally blows my mind. getting a tattoo or a piercing is not like being a drug addict. Nor does it mean a person has terrible judgement. Im sure there are plenty of drunk drivers out there who dont have tattoos. I dont drink.

Unless they have radically changed their policy, the American Red Cross won't accept donations from anyone who has had a tattoo or piercing within the past year....the reason? The chances of hepatitis or HIV/AIDS transmission during these procedures.

Yes, piercings and tattoos are still considered a poor judgement call to many professionals...particularly those hiring for positions in the public eye. That one eats unhealthy cheeseburgers is not so evident as a tattoo or piercing. Much like using the words "dude" or "seriously"....poor grammar, unprofessional manners of dressing, excessive and visual body markins and piercings, unusual hair colorings or styles....while you may feel they give you some measure of individuality and "uniqueness", they are still red flags to employers if they wish to have someone who represents their company to have a professional appearance.

I don't make the rules, I just know what they are.

In moderation they would be ok. People can do what they want to their own bodies, but personally I would not cover my entire body, let alone half of it, in tattoos and piercings. I only have one tattoo - and that's a birthmark

no i think youre living by rules that were made a long time ago. I work THREE jobs right now, all in the public eye. Two in the service industry and one in sales. I have never had a hard time finding a job, and generally i have made amazing friends both young and old BEING ME. I have great relationships with my current AND past bosses, and have gotten great feedback from customers many times about how i am their favorite employee. you assume that someone with tattoos and piercings will notdress or act professionally. thats just plain untrue. these things dont determine your personality or clump you into a group of degenerates automatically. like i said, no one thinks these things are unique anymore. WE ARENT STUPID. we know everyones doing it.

adding "dude" and "seriously" does not entail poor grammar either. it entails that i am 23 years old and havent quite become so uptight that i have to judge everyone around me based on an extra word thrown in here and there. Grammar is defined by the way sentences in a language are structured, not by the slang words thrown in those sentences, such as DUDE. If i had said, "DUDE, this here discussion aint not valid whatsoever." that would have been poor grammar. And no, i have not met an employer yet who refuses to hire someone based on the way they talk as opposed to the way they carry themselves. And yes, degenerate losers like myself can still carry themselves with respect and ambition.

I would agree with all you said but those adornment may keep you from your full potential. But if you are happy with where you are at then you are right .

I have 5 piercings in my left ear and 5 in the left. I also have size 6 plugs. Then I have a tattoo of 3 stars on my right foot. There is a large star, medium star, and a small star. The large star is for my older sister, the medium star is for me, and the small star is for my youngest sister. My older sister plans on getting the same tattoo soon. I also want to get another tattoo soon. I LOVE tattoos and piercings!! But there are some kinds of piercings that freak me out...and some tattoos I see pictures of and think why on earth would someone want that on their body for the rest of their life but then again to each their own....its none of my buisness as to what they do with their bodies...

Yeah, I know that these things may hold me back at some point. I can take the piercings out, and wear long sleeves to work. No one knows a thing. I am currently (on top of working three jobs) enrolled in the veterinary program here in northern nevada. I know first hand that MOST of the vet techs at our local office have tattoos. I cant say i have ever seen any on the actual vets, but they usually wear long sleeves under their scrubs. I want to be a vet tech, thats what i want to do with the rest of my life, and i do not see the tattoos and/or piercings holding me back from doing that. I think it is a common misconception that poeple with tats dont care where they are in life, but i know all of my tattoos and piercings are in spots that can be easily covered up or taken out. I do not have a mike tyson tat on my face. For the most part, i could probably get away with working any job without an employer ever knowing i had tattoos or piercings.
