Pigeon Bulletin Board?

Pics
It is Center of Town Krakow Poland. The authorities tried to rid the square for ever of pigeons, and gave up. It is a tourist attraction to have them there now. (cant beat them,,,,,, join them :gig). Most pix you see on line are void of the pigeons. Found this one on Google of same spot with them airborne. Two of my daughters went there for Study Abroad, Summer Program.

@biophiliac
Do you still keep chickens.? I recall reading that you housed them somewhere nearby on someones extended acreage. Must be a job/chore going to a coop not next to home. :idunno
I re-homed my little flock in March when we were 'evicted' from my neighbors coop/yard. lol (i was heartbroken at their loss but recovered when i was able to situate them on a beautiful farm as part of a much loved pet flock) It really was no problem for me to visit them twice a day but now that I have my loft about 10 steps from my door and can see the aviary from my window I am thrilled to have my birds so close. When I take my dog out early am there is always a pigeon looking (for me?) thru the loft window. :Dj
Pics of my flock with their new owner in there new home, a definite upgrade from their point of view, especially re free ranging opportunities!

So they were my 'gateway' birds and I was addicted. Not enough room on my brother's property where I live for chickens,... it occurred to me that pigeons would take their exercise in the sky ... :yesss: As I learn more about them they become more and more interesting. thanks for asking.

I am considering this as a mini flight pen attachted to to loft aviary. I would of course put a top on it. A local DIY store, Menards, has it for about $350.00

I am trying to keep my birds captive until they produce some offspring but it saddens me to see them try to practice flying in the small space of the loft. This could give them an extra 10 feet.

Thoughts??

Is this the one you are considering. 6 x 5 x 10. I think it is great. Put some branches inside to have it feel natural for the cuties, :) Places for them to fly to and park. Cover the top with welded 2 x 4 wire. Self supporting VS chicken wire. The entrance gate makes it EZ access .
One of the peeps that I got pigeons from had a similar setup. He had a 8 x 10 plastic garden shed from Sam's. Attached he had a dog kennel 8 x 12. He kept about 100 birds.
If you do have enough room I suggest you opt for the 10 foot length. It will give the birds good flight span.

Yes that is it, the 10 ft. version. Thanks for your reply - that is very encouraging!:D I think I can just barely fit it in. I would move the gate panel to the side, remove the end panel to connect it to the aviary(the front of the aviary is hinged and the entire 4x4 section swings open): Then i think i could use that panel to form part of the top. The rest of the top and down to the top of the aviary would be covered with the 2x4 in welded wire fencing. ...

Are you thinking of getting some more white homers this year?:D

I am but do have some unusual concerns about the pigeon dander. At this time it is on hold. I am thinking of building a standalone loft similar to what you have. Trying to keep the pigeon dust out of the garage as it presently is. I want to build a new larger chicken coop also (4 x 8). Next to it would be the new loft. The loft would be taller than chicken coop. I do have some good ideas on a descent aviary for the loft. All seems to take time.

Your mention of concerns about pigeon dander reminded me to get those dust masks I've been meaning to pick up, and I did! Even wore one in the loft today.

Also, finally got the settling cage hooked over the trap door. I can actually shoot a pic thru my window!

First one to explore... I put some romaine leafs in there. The birds down in the aviary are trying to figure out how he got up there! lol
