I thought pigeons were supposed to share the nest together? I have a pair of house pigeons. The hen is refusing to give up the nest. She's at a good weight, and eating good. All my other birds share the nest. Anyone else have birds that do this? its been about three days since she started sitting. I have been out to the barn several times a day. So far she is only that has been sitting on it.

I am no expert but dont the males take night shift?

Everything I have read says they are supposed to do that. but she's been doing both.

Males usually set from about 10:00 a.m. til 2p.m. or later. I have some males that only set on the nest for a few hours during the day some will set until evening. The hen sits the rest of the time. As long as some one is on them they will be fine. I have heard of males claiming 100% of setting time as well.

Well, hopefully the chicks will be OK and they will raise. I guess we will know in a couple of weeks huh? I pulled her off for a few seconds just to see what she'd do. She got real angry and jumped right back on them.

Never mind. The hen decided to let the male have his turn tonight.

Can't wait to see if they hatch and raise any babies!

Good. Hens sitting tight is much better than not setting tight thats for sure. I have always liked hungarian house pigeons but I like to fly my pigeons so those wouldnt fly much lol.

I think they are the funkiest looking birds. And am glad I came across them. I love their feather tufts around their heads,a nd their muffs on their feet. I am hoping to see if I can find more them when I attend a fair pigeon show with them next fall. So I gat another pair and try to pair up some babies out of them. A breeder friend of mine tells me they can be hard to find. These guys definately have a bolder attitude then my angels do.

A little update. they are both nesting fine. And yes monmma is one of those hens that is sitting on the nest pretty tight. She's only giving the male a couple of hours in the afternoon.

I candled the eggs tonight. Both are fertile. You can already see the embryos little hearts beating.

Also, this is my breeding pair. The male is the grey. female is the brown and white colored one. I think the female is called a red. Can anyone ID the color ofthe male for me?
