pigeon mating question

not sure if you can get them to mate, but when you see them starting to kiss and build there nest then thats the sign that they have mated or mating. and what ive normally found is that one is normally under the other partner

Hey, I know this is an old thread, buuuut I've got a question. I thought a pair mated for life, unless one mate died. My breeding pair currently have a nest, about 3 days old, and today and saw the male mounting a different female. Is this ok? And if they end up doing a nest, will it be ok for the male health wise to be feeding two different nests of squabs?

Pigeons have primary partner pairs, but they are not manogmus usually. this is why most competitive flyers n or showers, pair and breed seperately. both sexes participate in poligamy or even free love.
I've had one male with three or four females even, feeding their young (parlors n amm fat babies). my homers n flights are more monogamus, but one homer cock had taken a female and had had a couple of own, two primary females.

Hope someone can answer... One of my pigeons, storm the slightly larger one, when I pet him, squats down and raise his/her back end. I can't watch YouTube or video (poor service) Is this mating display? What else should I watch for from males and females. All bird sexes are unknown. They hatched October 1. Thanks to anyone who answers!

Sounds like a mating display from a female is my best guess.

Thanks Hokum. I assumed so, but, I also thought Storm was male... Larger bird, very colorful neck and bib. And, coos and dances.

I have yet to meet a pigeon fancier who has not made a mistake in pigeon gender. Just for the record you could be still correct on your first assumption. The fact that you are human and much larger would make him take a submissive role in your relationship. Male and female pigeons are know to have same sex unions.
