Pigeon Talk

I'm pretty sure spread is dominant, so if a bird has it it'll show. But if you breed them you could possibly get an Ash red T checker so that could be cool! : D
Okay. I didn't know spread was dominant! Thanks. I've still got alot to learn about genetics.

Are pure white birds spread birds? If so, from what bird? Because spread spreads the tail color that means it would have to be a bird with an opposite tail band.

That's right for spread for brown and blue, but remember for ash reds since they don't have a tail band, a spread Ash red bird is just solid 'ash' ;D and no, like biophiliac said white is more complex : D Generally it's gonna be recessive white or Piebald (which is so much more complicated than Piebald in other animals haha)

but where do I start!
The best way is to make your own "experimental" breedings and makes notes on what happens. You can read all the information on pigeon genetics out there and still not know every outcome. There are exceptions to most all of the rules, because mutations can and do happen (not often, but they do occur and that's how we ended up with so many different colors and color modifiers that can be found today). Having said that, I know you are interested in the flying and racing aspect of the sport... so don't get too worried about the color part now. Breeding for color before you have proven the flying capabilities of your birds will end up setting you back in your racing journey (unless you keep a separate loft of just colored birds).
