RIP. So sorry for your loss.Lost my favorite pigeon today.
Frodo was the first pigeon I had born in my loft in April 2019. A year later at the start of the pandemic I lost my entire flock during a loft fly and he was the only one I ever got back - found 80 miles away with his tail ripped out by a raptor. I retrieved him and he became the patriarch of my flock, fathering 6 excellent members of my flying team in the past two seasons
Today a Cooper’s hawk flushed out at my birds as they were all congregating to head back inside the loft. It locked onto Frodo and while the others went above the trees he unfortunately flew low and hard through the empty door frame into the neighbors half-built garage across the street and hit the window on the back wall. I wish I could’ve saved him but I believe he probably died on impact before the hawk got to him immediately after. I can only hope that meeting his end this way was instantaneous.
Rest in peace my friend.
I believe these might be what @MeanCheek has ??Can you experts here tell me what breed of pigeons these are? I saw the pic online but not identified and I am rather taken with them. They look a little like classic frills with the short beak and little crest, but I don't think they come in that color, the beaks seem a bit too long, and there is no chest frill. Can't tell if they have clean legs or not, but certainly not feathered enough to be fairy swifts.
Whatever they are, I love the soft look of their little faces.
