Pigeon Talk

@biophiliac so sorry about your bird. How long has it had it? And wiw, talk about coler change! Lol.

@MisFits farm welcome! Weve already met but its sure nice to see youve come to join us over here.
Well this bird has always struggled a bit but I'd say a week ago I noticed some general symptoms of avian illness, ie less active, spending more time alone and fluffed, less appetite... At that time i believe the canker was quite significant in the crop and esophagus where it is not visible. Only 2 days ago did a couple of tiny lesions appear in the mouth.

Sound like his dream is to be very high ranked in the flock.

I think you are correct.:D
Welcome to pigeon talk!

I gave my birds corn (whole) for the first time and they LOVED it! Ill have to find some where cheaper to get othr than a grocery store! I dont think i need 50 pounds though. What do you all do for feed? Mix it or buy your own?
I give corn, added to the regular mix, in winter mainly. You should be able to get 10 or 20 pound bags where they sell bird feed, and some people feed it to squirrels. I get mine in the pet food warehouse i go to.

Wait, now im cunfused. Capuchines and jacobins are the same? @Pyxis ?

They're pretty much exactly the same. I think capuchines have slightly smaller collars. And there's a little bit of difference in type, I think.

I'd forgotten you said jacobins and got them crossed in my mind with capuchines, lol. I'd really be fine with either, personally.

We were told the homing pigeons were a pair but they've never laid an egg and I haven't seen them breed. The nun pigeon is a male and we were told the helmet pigeon is female but the person we got them from said since she was young they were not sure. The rollers are also a pair. I want to breed but only one pair laid 2 eggs once neither hatched though. If you know any tricks to get pigeons to go broody and successfully hatch the eggs please share them with a newbie like me.

Do they have nesting boxes? If not theres your prob. You need nesting boxes with bedding so they can build a nest. Do the cocks go and make sounds in a certain spot? Not just cooing but like they are calling thier mate in?
