Pigeon Talk

I don't, as a rule, like show animals of any persuasion. They are the most inbred, exaggerated animals. It is not surprising to me show line owls are structurally unsound in the name of aesthetic - I would not want to raise those types of birds.

Any animal that has reduced vision due to excess hair/feathers is problematic to me. A dog can be given a haircut and it's fine, but birds may be more difficult due to blood feathers and such. I'm iffy on it. Silkies are not the birds for me, I will say.

Meat pigeons can all fly to some degree. They are usually structurally sound but large and lazy. They are still OK but bordering on problematic. They're a far cry from broiler chickens though, which are terrible.
PETA would like no one to own or breed any animal. While I don’t agree with breeding extremes of any species, I do believe We have rght to keep animals as long as they are treated humanely. If PETA gets its way we will no longer be able to own any s animal.

My favorite cock bird weaseled his way out of the door when I was feeding today, he's done it before and I usually let him because he just does a few laps then comes right back down when he sees all the others eating "his" food.
However today a cooper's grabbed him and dragged him down a hill into the woods. I'm not sure how but he managed to escape unharmed and I found him hiding under my car. A close call and lesson learned, I won't be letting him do that anymore.
Wow, that’s amazing.!

Oh... And the sick roller bird has died :(
Sorry to hear that. Was it the one with the crooked neck?
Can't wait to see! :jumpy Breeding season in my loft has not been exciting like last year because...

these eggs are in my refrigerator!:hit

However, it appears Loper(the feral) whom I thought was a cockbird, is a hen.

All puffed up and broody. I had put down a cardboard box with a rat litter box for a nest bowl. I knew that if Loper paired up I would be very tempted to let them raise young. She is very agile and her small compact but muscular body type might be a good balance to my oversize cock birds. Probably a bad idea. Somebody talk me down?

Since I'm 'not breeding' I haven't bothered to provide nesting materials and I saw the cock had managed to find one small twig in the snow to try and help build a nest. I felt bad so I grabbed some leftover tobacco stems and put them in...View attachment 1697696
Note to self - Store up a supply of pine needles as soon as they are available, ie after the snow melts.
You need a bigger loft! Poor old loper making a nest with one twig! Good job you had some other material for her!
Wow! My heart sunk!! Till I finished reading. Whew!

Noooooo guineas!
I can however give you some more bantam cochin chicks. :D

Oh no! I’m sorry :hugs

I think you came to the wrong place to be talked down.
But I’ll try, if you really want me to. :p
I'd have some more banty cochins of ya'! I need twice as many though to make up for little eggs!

They should be more concerned with helping mistreated animals than those that are well looked after.
Definitely will NOT BE ME:love little SQUEEKS.:)
This will infuse some new genes into your flock:thumbsup
Which of your gents is Looper paired up with.. Pix if possible:frow
I second that! A fresh bloodline from a good bird could produce some very good birds.

Wow! Lots exciting things have happened.

Speaking egg-citing... The squab is out! I'll post pics tommorrow.
:celebrate :pop
Im sorry about the roller! :(:hugs

@WVduckchick .

Your bantam rooster in the background of that video sounds exactly like my Dutch cockerel:
