She's pretty! I bet she gets used to house living pretty quick. Can't wait to hear what Olive thinks!

I love that first pic with the ghost image of the birds head, must have reached down to preen something when the shot was taken. It's hard to get them to stand still!Very true.
I already have enough prisoners, so there was no way I was going to catch another one!
Pics of the feral coming soon! It's pouring now though...

Got her set up in a larger cage... Had to move my canary for the time being but now Rosie has a ledge and a branch perch. I've placed an order for a fluffy bed for her too. Though as she doesn't have any shelves to put it on she might choose to sleep on that ledge. Or actually ill try to get her a shelf today. She's eating her peanuts now and getting more lively.
She is very shy. I let her out and she ran to hide under a desk. But she is very gentle and likes to be petted.

aww! How sweet! She seems to be adjusting well. Was she lost on a race? Or did anyone ever figure out?View attachment 1849139

I'm just barely keeping up with the thread since my brother is here for a visit, from CA.
So cute!

She looks to be settled in. Once she is able to observe Olive, it will be interesting to see what she learns. I can't wait to find out if she will sleep in the fluffy bed like Olive or if she will take the perch she is probably used to. What a relief her wing is not as bad as first thought.

Here's my answer bio.So, i wanted a feral or two to fly with my racers to see if they would pick up any survival tips, but I wasn't sure if it was legal. I asked our wildlife management and they said yes. so tonight we went by a local bridge, and this guy could barely fly on the ground, by the road. So that's how it all happened!pics to come tommorrow.
Can Loper keep up with your racers?
Edit added: sorry @biophiliac ! I thought I hit the post button yesterday!
Don't worry, I didn't forget your question.I want to know of Loper keeps up!
Ok, thanks!Don't worry, I didn't forget your question.I'm not sure I have the answer to that....
I have no proof of how she would do in a toss since they have only been loft flying. If trained for racing I believe she would at least hold her own on short and middle distances. She is compact but very 'corky', I think they call it, meaning muscular. I do notice she spontaneously demonstrates feats of agility more so than my homers. She can go fast and still make steep turns, change her speed and hover or do a 360° loop to name a few. She in all ways fits in perfectly with the flock. She always appears to be in good physical and mental health. I've never regretted allowing her to join. Under the circumstances, quarantine was not an option as she taught herself to trap.
Haha! I'm sure she will grow attached to get soon.Olive has now seen the new pigeon, but doesn't care about her whatsoever. She only tried to see what was in her food dish and then ignored her and followed me back into the other room.
That is more speculating proof that you now have 2 hens. They will get to like each other in time. Hens do not fight like males.Olive has now seen the new pigeon, but doesn't care about her whatsoever. She only tried to see what was in her food dish and then ignored her and followed me back into the other room.
I agree on the intervention.. I leave my birds be way more than I used to do. It seems they all do better when I stay out of their way.. Its hard sometimes tho..She's figured out how to find the buffet for a snack on the way home.
I just love old hens! You can never have too many hens.
I do too. I argue with myself about how much to intervene when they are very young. I prefer to let the parents do what they can and accept the result. I believe, on a flock level, the the more you intervene, the more you will have to intervene. It's not a hard and fast rule though.
I like how you have the inside!![]()

Here's #43 & #44. Both growing well. #43 has more white and some around the face, #44 has less white but still in the same places.
Dang it.. Im sorry! We lost Trip/Rocky’s #2 baby. Found it dead yesterday. I kinda knew it wasn’t going to make it. But the other one is doing great.
A couple pics from last week, I think these are mostly youngsters.

She is so pretty! I kinda hope you het keep her...I just had to take her out the loft. A single female in a loft with two single males maybe wasn't a great idea! They had her pinned in the corner. So I put a cage up in the garage for her and she is quite happy there!

Ash has layed her second egg and after much deliberation I've decided to leave both under her. I've seen #66 on the nest now as well. I have 5 pairs and they seem the safest bet at the moment. I'm gonna pray this works this time round.![]()
Almost as big as their dad now!
Not sure on names for these two, any suggestions?
She is very pretty! Im so glad you took her in and she's doing well! She is in good hands for sure!View attachment 1848153
She's here. She's so thin she must have starved for a while before being found. I can feel her keel and its sharp like a knife down her whole front. She's eaten a lot and drank a lot and now is resting. I treated her for mites and lice though didnt see any. She's filthy and needs a bath. I cut off the sling that was put to hold her wing to check it and she is able to hold that wing folded well so debating whether to wrap it again. Under it was very dirty and damp so I want it to air first. She is tame and does not fight handling but may be only due to her exhausted state.
I named her Rosie.
Well crud, I candled Cyril and Clara's egg and didn't see life. Maybe I'm jumping the gun but usually by day 3 I can even see life in chicken eggs, which are bigger and develop slower. I won't take the egg yet of course but now I'm thinking it might not be fertile. Which is weird because I literally saw them mate.
Yes, that cleares it up.. for me anyway.I'm sorry! I got 8 new racers, and then a new feral all yesterday. So 9 total. It was late when I posted...
Does this clear everything up?
Very true.
