Pigeon Talk

I just began feeding wild birds one month ago, with a little feeder in the front yard.

First day, no birds.
Second day, one sparrow.
Second week, about 10 sparrows.
Today, we get a daily count of about 200 sparrows, about 50 blackbirds, 2 cardinals, 20 cowbirds, a grackle and 2 mourning doves....

I'm afraid what another month will bring me. They eat 3 lbs a day of seeds already.

Wow! Your feeder budget is bigger than the seed budget for my loft. Do you just keep adding more seeds as more birds come to eat?

It's not even winter yet.:th

Yep.... it gets filled every morning, and by evening it's emptied. And if there's still birds around, I add more so sometimes twice a day. I'm buying the cheapest bulk brand which is mostly corn and milo but the birds don't mind. Though we don't get the prettier types with more refined tastes so much.

This is the yard basically all day long. We have a birdbath too, which they empty several times a day as well.

It's just one tiny bird feeder, but I guess nobody else feeds them so the whole neighborhood's bird population has caught wind of it.

:love The water/bath is so important! Not everyone thinks to provide it along with the food. I would think most seed eaters would want a drink of water after dinner like my pigeons do.

I usually buy a quantity like this every time it goes on sale. This way I get a bag free. (VS paying regular price:)) Those are 40 LB bags.View attachment 1887181
I go thru a 50 pound bag of BOSS every 3 months also.

I think caveman feeds the squirrels too. :D
The squirrels have quit coming to my aviary ...dk why. Before they disappeared I was bribing them with BOSS in a spot away from the loft.
