Pigeon Talk

Crap! I was afraid this might happen. My guess is that they are 'thinking about' the next clutch and have stopped brooding the squab. Some cocks will take over for the hen (my Birmingham Rollers were super dads) but others will not. I am concerned for Bugsy if you can not provide some heat source. Also keep an eye on him to see that they continue feeding him and his crop is full. Aren't there reptile heating pads that could be put under the nest bowl. or a hot water bottle, Or what about one of those hand/boot warmer packets? Bringing him inside would work for sure, but might also cause them to further abandon their parenting.

Darn. Wish I had checked Bugsys crop while I was there. I don’t want to spook her off the nest again now. But should I risk it?

I did see Bonnie in the nest today for a little while, so I hope they are still feeding.

She is still on the nest with Bugsy. I assume now she will stay all night.

The box they are in was a chicken “house”. It’s about 6’ wide, 2.5’ tall, 3’ deep. There was a chicken roost pole with a flat board on top, when I moved the pigeons in, I moved the roost as high as I could, and the flat board butts up against the back wall. That’s where Clyde sleeps. The nest bowl is maybe 18” below the roost, too high for the baby to get to the adults. Bonnie was up there before I moved her.

Can’t find a good pic, but it’s built just like this one, with the exception of the nest box sticking out the front of this one is not on the pigeon box. So this is similar to what they are in right now.
