Pigeon Talk

It’s been over 2 hours now, so I don’t expect she will move before daylight. Whew!

Tomorrow may be a different adventure! :D
Consider removing that top roost temporarily. This will encourage parent pigeon to sleep with Junior, or on floor:idunno
Consider a heating pad for under the nest. Probably only needed for 2 weeks now. I also used a reptile stone that was intended for an Iguana. Adult pigeons did like to sleep on it overnight. Now very Hot.
When I had squabs growing up during winter, I had a 40Watt lamp under the plywood floor that the nest was on. It just gently removed the chill.
I used one of these, and did not have it touching the wood. Fire hazard concern.

Temporarily removing that roost is a great idea! Thanks!

My next option is the lamp hood like your picture with a ceramic infrared reptile bulb like this. Been using them in brooders for a couple years. Like them even better than brooder plates.

I also recently bought this large plate, it’s in with my serama broody right now, but I think she has a week or so to go before her chicks hatch, so I could swap it and give her the lamp. I don’t have a pad to put under the nest but I could look for one today.

Bugsy is doing well this morning? :fl I think in another week she won't need extra heat.

At this age if you have to hand feed it shouldn't be a problem. Fill the crop twice a day and start exposing her to seed and grit, and water.
I highly recommend the videos by Maney Loft, I already linked to one on handfeeding. Hetakes many of the squabs at 2 weeks to raise by hand, in part to give the parents a rest and I think in part bc he likes real tame birds. He also does some moving of eggs from one nest to another acheive his breeding goals. Anyway, I thought his channel is worth subscribing.

I like that guy too. I’ll watch more of his videos later today. Might actually consider hand feeding Bugsy. Was planning to check her crop this afternoon and see how things are going. Thanks again!

And here’s the inside of the box. Yes, it needs cleaned out lol
The ledge on the right is where Clyde sleeps. So when the top lid is closed, he is right up under the roof.

Glad to hear it!:celebrateI saw your pics after i replied.
Do you have a solid wood floor below bedding? If so, I would consider removing all the bedding and leaving a smooth floor til the Bugsy is fledged. The reason is so she can play around with seeds, and those that spill out she will chase them around, picking up and dropping at first. This is not as easy with the bedding and she might ingest some inedible/unsavory stuff. Just my thoughts fwiw.

Good idea bio.

I forgot to tell you all that i flew my 2 racers yesterday. They did good and trapped fine. A roller got out during it and typically they would follow the homers and get lost but it stayed close and i got it back in. I may fly some more because i havent seen a cooper in a long time. Im not sure where they alll went.

@Hokum Coco have you lost any more birds? Whats your head count?
