Pigeon Talk

I nuke mine in the microwave
On this side of the pond, we add gunpowder to chicken feed.
we no weenies.:gig:lau

There is another video that shows an egg exploding after microwave stopped, and dude opened up the door. I passed linking it because inappropriate language in video. :sick

Eggs do not need to be whole to explode. I have had some sliced egg slices on a sandie pop as I was reheating it. Result was of course an unwanted cleanup:old

I opened Rosie's cage again today but she did not come out all day. Olive went into her cage and ate some of her food, and Rosie came over to her right away. But Olive pecked at Rosie when she tried to eat with her and then Rosie pecked back and then they both went their own separate ways. She watched Olive take a bathe but didn't come out to try it herself. I misted her a little to at least encourage preening of her very dirty flight feathers but she didn't do anything. Just sat there wet until she dried with her feathers kinda spiked on the back of her neck. She was really interested watching a mourning dove eating outside the window this afternoon. She is lonely.

But despite that, she is putting weight back on and I can feel a little meat on either side of her keel now that was not there last week. She cooed once yesterday - a single "hoo" in response to Olive cooing at me. She stopped eating peanuts but is eating a lot of safflower and peas now. She tosses her seed like crazy so I tried separating it into separate dishes which I thought would cut down on her flinging... but she still flings a dish of just one seed, I guess trying to find the best examples in the bottom of the cup. The mesh cage will definitely be nice to keep it all in the enclosure, right now the floor under the cage tends to have more food on it than her dish.

She poops a lot more than Olive but her droppings are drier and don't stick to anything so it's very easy to dump the cage tray every morning. I'm not sure yet if her appetite is bigger due to her breed or because she is so underweight but she puts down at least twice as much food... and then twice as much comes out the other end.

Trying to think of how to set up some perches in the playpen cage. Maybe just some bricks? Or I thought if I can find a wood step stool as a little ledge. I can't mount the perches or shelves I had in the bird cage in there.

I think it is because she is soo behind in her Ideal Size/weight, due to being undernourished for however long she was out.

For perches,,,, get creative with some branch sticks, and scrap pieces of wood.

The fantails are looking better now. I put a bowl of water in for them. They still have green poo on them. They stood in it but that's about it.

Rosie came right out when I opened the cage this morning and the two birds ate safflower seeds together on the floor. Then Olive flew across the house and Rosie tried to and fell on her face, she was not able to get any height at all. She's started cooing a bit, only when Olive is out of sight. She wants to be Olive's friend, but Olive doesn't reciprocate.

She is not hiding at all and is alternating walking around the porch and sitting on the basket under the mail slot, the highest perch she seems able to reach right now.

 what a huge difference from just yesterday!:clap Go Rosie Go!

She seems to have adjusted considerably overnight. A few days in the cage seems to have helped. She doesn't even hide when I approach her out of the cage today, but she does walk away and keeps about 4 feet between us.
Observational learning and habituation, pigeons are masters!:D

Her disability sounds very, very similar to Doba's. Not able to gain height. Recovery likely to be slow and steady.

Did you make a deal on those squeakers you were looking at? I'll have 2 hand fed babies you could adopt for Rosie.:)
