Hay everyone! Glad everybody birds are doing good.

This weekend, while driving, guess what I saw... A PURE WHITE fantail! On a wire, with ferals! That thing practically glowed! I wanted to go catch it some might sooooo bad... I yelled, "Dad! There's a fantail!" But. .. It's on the interstate, so too much traffic.

Under the bridge that I caught both ferals, I saw a beautiful grizzled bird there. On the wire. It was pretty. Haven't seen it before. So I am hoping to go, catch it, and return it to its owner if it has one... so in all, while driving on the interstate for about 50 miles, I saw: one grizzle, 1 pure white fantail, 3 almost pure whites (homers?), And two reds. I wonder how many are lost domestic birds. Do any of y'all see much color in your feral flocks?

There's a flock of ~15 that roost on a mill near my work that has quite a few red bars.

really? you mean like silvers/ash reds? that's neat!

They are! I assume they're probably deacended from lost birds and that most of them with that color are related.

you should catch one, and se if it has much homer in it

I would feel bad if it didn't because it would almost certainly become hawk bait.
I do love the red color though and currently only have blues, blue spreads (black), and blue grizzles and would love to introduce that color into my flock.

I understand. but if you get an older bird, it will come with hawk knowledge, and may fare pretty well. I have been impressed with my ferals. even though I got them when young, they are so smart. smarter then my racers. they learn to trap quickly, where to find food outside the coop, they learned a new waterer quickly. they have started routing a little bit too. I dont know what I would do without my ferals. they make training the racers easy. I use them as droppers kinda! I set them on the landing board, so that if I have a new bird outside, they will join them. they just sit there for a minute or too, then drop down, peck, then trap. one of them was gone for 2 nights, after a hawk scare, but some how made it through nearly 3 days, and 2 nights. needless to say, I love my ferals, and hope to get my flock to 5-6. oh, and I settled my most recent one in a day... didn't trap till day two though.

Wasn't finished with the perches and my screw gun battery died but I figured they could still enjoy the aviary.

Perches should be done by tomorrow or so and it can finally be finished.

Olive started another molt. Amazing how sudden it comes on, and how many feathers one bird can drop! But she seems to get through it really fast, she's already got new quills all over her head and neck. I've got about a dozen nice big wing feathers saved between this and her spring molt.
