Last night was -20°F and all my birds pulled through it! 4 babies and 4 incubating eggs all perfectly fine!
I just wanted to brag about my birds a little.

I get this on probably 20% of my squabs and I honestly have no idea what it means. It always seems to fade away though. One of my chicks have a round ring around his beak
Do you know what any of that means ?
The parents are both ash red
They deserve the bragging! Especially the moms with babies. A group of mine were out in the pen sunbathing at -10F this morning. LolLast night was -20°F and all my birds pulled through it! 4 babies and 4 incubating eggs all perfectly fine!

They amaze me! They seem just as comfortable at 0°F as they do at 75°F.They deserve the bragging! Especially the moms with babies. A group of mine were out in the pen sunbathing at -10F this morning. Lol
Interesting. This hasn't been the case with my flock. 90% of my blue\black birds have this band when young, but none of them have the dirty gene. I like to keep my loft clean, no dirty genes allowed.I think somebody told me that those markings on the beak can mean the pigeon carries what’s called the dirty or smokey gene which in addition to feather markings can cause them to have dark feet which eventually lighten up.

Funny how genetics work. It sounds you you have the dirty gene\jeans mastered.I always end up with dirty jeans when cleaning my loft.
