Pigeon Talk

Personally, I let my pet pigeons run/fly around in my house since it’s safer and they can still retain all their flight abilities, but I understand that is not for everyone.
That is all correct.. But consider the time when someone forgets to close the door or window,,, :old Not very likely,, but possible. :idunno

You can see how certain pigeons with clipped wings perform on YouTube. I don't have any clips available at fingertips,, but do recall seeing these. Search a little and you can find.
Pigeon still is able to fly up into loft,,, but not fly away.
The purpose of doing some of these clippings,,, is so pigeon can be outdoors, but not escape beyond retrieval.

I fed two of my pigeons grit recently, its good pigeon grit but they ended up pooping their seeds out after eating it? What have I done wrong? Have I blocked their gizzard or something? I thought grit was supposed to help them and now I'm worried sick that I've hurt my birds.

I know @WVduckchick has a HUGE AVIARY, with top netting. Her pigeons get sufficient flight experience in there. We cant all have such facilities due to our individual limitations.
When I had pigeons that were not yet homeset,, I used to setup a screen house in back yard so they experience more space, as well as grass below. In the eve,, I manually transferred them back into their loft.
This is similar, but not exact to what I have, Note,, no floor.

Have no fear,, :hugs the grit allows the seeds to be ground down in gizzard, rather than just passing thru. Just have the grit there free-choice. Pigeons will decide when they want to ingest more.

Well okay, I am still worried, I will lesson the amount of grit I feed my pigeons, if they don't starve to death due to gizzard blockage anything you folks can suggest to stop runny poop that my third pigeon is suffering from? I've given him grit, going to give him more probiotics, this time for avians but I still haven't stopped his poop from being runny and sadly I cannot afford to get a vet anytime soon.

Here is something you may consider trying,,,,,, wont hurt. Get some frozen sweet peas,, and thaw,, and feed those to your pigeon in question. Don't expect miracles instantly, but that is good nutrition that is often given to baby pigeons before they can eat seeds on their own.
I read that tip from a member that used to frequent these forums in the past.
I understand your pigeons are adult grade,,, but this is worth a try. :hugs
BTW,, those sweet peas are soft,, so no gizzard action required on pigeons' part.
