If that person is not far from you....... would you consider getting some of his pigeons to accompany your.??

They are not too close, it'd be a 6+hr round trip depending on traffic, but even if they were closer, I would not consider dealing with them.

I'll try to source some locally if possible.

Craigslist has always worked well for me! You may have a somewhat local pigeon club nearby as well.

Thank you @WVduckchick for your help and for inviting me to the thread.

I'll try to make this short.
Couple of weeks ago, I found a Pigeon. Cold, hungry and thirsty.
She's banded, so I was able to track down her owner who did not want her back.
Anyway. I placed her in a box in the shed, gave her some food/water.
She stayed in the shed at night and I'd place her in a dog crate outside during the day while I worked on her "home".

I have a larger kennel that was already roofed on a platform, etc., just needed covered with hardware cloth. So I finally got that done and she's now in her "new home".
She seems to be happier in there, than just the cage. She's eating well and seems to be healthy.

IF the band date is correct, she's 8 years old, but I'm not quite so sure about that. I suppose at some point I'll have to find her a friend or two

She has no name. I say "she", the owner alluded to "she" but who knows!

I don't know anything about Pigeons, so suggestions/comments/feedback are very much appreciated.

This is a couple of weeks ago when I found her. She did have some lice or some type of bugs in her feathers. I promptly dusted her!

Glad you found your way here. The new kennel looks great! Looks like she has room to fly around a bit, and stretch her wings. She’s lucky such a caring person rescued her.

You could browse Craigslist or maybe Facebook in your area, see if anyone’s reported a missing bird.

Chances are with that type of band you will never be able to locate the owner. New addition?

That pigeon is from somewhere nearby. Those don't fly far. Must have escaped someone's' home, or loft.

i think the animal shelter has facebook, at least I hope they do. i don't have either so i can't post it myself. i would happily adopt the baby but i don't have a pigeon-appropriate set up and i don't think i can take on any new animals

I've never used it, but I think there's something like "Nextdoor" which is like a local app, you might try posting in lost/found sections of that too.

I really need to look into these things but am not a fan of FB or similar.

If I lived close, I'd take it LOL
Still looking for some company for mine. I have a few leads to follow up on, so hopefully not too much longer.

Beautiful bird! My first thought also was it couldn’t have come far, since they don’t fly well. Maybe look around your area for pigeon lofts in backyards? The National Pigeon Association publishes their membership list. I’d be happy to look at the latest issue for addresses closest to you if you want to say approximately where you live, or message me privately.

*edit - other clubs may also publish their list. I’m not sure if they give info to everyone, but you may try calling some. But if it came from an auction, the buyer may not even belong to any club.

I’m a big fan of the white design on Old Austrian Tumblers. Very aesthetically pleasing white belly. Reminds me of a penguin, 10/10.
Also their shape is adorable.

Would be an interesting pattern on a Chinese owl.
