Pigeon Talk

Unfortunately someone left the loft door open so Boffin disappeared never to be seen again. :( and then a squeaker died, so now we are back down to three.
I saw Biffster breeding Beauty and thought they might soon try to start a new set of eggs. Since their other nest bowl has no padding, I put some straw in there and added some straw in the empty box below since I grabbed too much. They were excited about the straw and Biff grabbed a piece and set it in the nest with the Baby. Beauty went into the nest and plucked out that piece of straw and discarded it. She seemed to think it was far too long.

I drew a pigeon with some of the features I find really cute in pigeons.

What kind of pigeon was Boffin??
Reason I'm asking. It is puzzling for a pigeon to fly away. I know even the non homing pigeons generally will hang around in back yard area, and return into loft at bed time.
Do you suspect a raptor got to Boffin in the close vicinity, or was there a predator that entered loft and took pigeon.???
:hugsfor your loss:(

Arabian Trumpeter. It is puzzling due to the fact that the pigeons hate leaving the loft, which is why I think that a predator got her.

It’s been quiet here for a while!

I have some visitors, quite unexpectedly. When I went out yesterday evening to feed my pigeons and close them in for the night, there were two strange pigeons on the roof of the chicken run next to the pigeon aviary. I put down some seed for them outside.

I was away this morning, but when I came home about noon I went out to open the pigeons’ door and there, inside my aviary, were perched the two visitors!

The first and third are not mine. I had not been closing the cover of the bob door and they obviously knew how to use it. So much for biosecurity! 🤣

I put down some more seed, which they ate (I usually just feed my pigeons in the evening), then opened the doors and they joined most of my pigeons outside. If they come in tonight I will try to grab one or both and see if I can learn anything from their bands.

Handsome birds!
