Exactly five weeks ago we brought our two poults home from the feed store. I'm guessing they are about 5.5 to 6 weeks old.
Right now our turkeys are living in a rabbit hutch outside with a 100 watt heat lamp on during the night. They sleep on wood shavings with a blanket over the sides of the hutch to keep the heat inside.
With the lamp on, the temp. in the hutch runs 75 - 80 degrees.
We live in central California between LA and San Francisco so our daytime temps run from the upper 60s (foggy and windy) to the mid 80s, sunshine very low humidity. The hot days are rare. The evenings are chilly and foggy.
The turks are growing daily and are about to scrape the top of their heads on the roof of their hutch. They have very little fuzz on the top of their heads now, it looks like they are wearing beige and black striped wigs with bare necks.
We let them out to roam the yard when we are home, so for the most part they have no added heat during the day time.
They still have naked pink skin under their wings so they aren't completely feathered yet.
It is about time for us to build them a bigger house. Pinky and The Big Guy's question is, do they still need heat during the night until all of their feathers grow in?

Thank you in advance,

ps. can anyone tell if Pinky is male or female?
