Pipd's Peeps 2014!

The girls refused to pose for their 9 month pictures yesterday, and I didn't have the time to make them cooperate before I had to get going to class, so I only got a hand full of pictures. Will get better ones tomorrow, since we're not only supposed to have a slight warmup, but I don't have class to get ready for in the morning!

For now, here are most of the littles giving me dirty looks, because obviously it's my fault it's been cold.

Our sweet Louise had to take a break from the cold, so she's bunking with my old Cubby in my room:

And if anyone is wondering (since I don't remember if I've mentioned her here or not), here is old Cubby. She'll be 10 years old in about another month and a half!

Awww. All of them are adorable! Old Cubby is really sweet looking! I'm guessing she's too old to lay anymore?

Haha, she may look sweet, but she's a cantankerous old gal! She laid her last egg a couple summers ago and hasn't looked twice at the nests since.

Yes, my poor Georgie! Oddly enough, she's the only one to have gotten frostbite that bad. I have a couple other hens with whitish tips that I'm keeping an eye on, but no one else out of my 41 girls is showing any signs of frostbite.

Wow. I only have 6! I will be getting 2 EE's this year though and maybe a male Ringneck pheasant, but I'd never be able to even imagine having 41 chickens!

42 if you count the rooster. And 11 Guineas and two ducks. And the only two that I still mix the names up on are Elly and Kit! I can look at one, think 'That is Elda', and still say, "Hi, Kit-kit!" My coop is at max capacity, though, so no more babies for a while. :/

Good luck with your EE babies! Interesting on the pheasant! We have tons of ringneck pheasants wild here in the woods, and turkeys are making a comeback in our area as well. AND, I saw not only a Great Horned owl, but an Eastern Screech owl when I got my birdies locked in for the night tonight. Lots of interesting birds in my neck of the woods!

Okay, I promised pictures today of the littles, but something came up and I couldn't get it done. My poor, beloved Frou-frou has a mystery injury on the back of her neck and I had to get her patched up and set up inside for the night. She's doing fine thus far, but I have no idea what happened or how, and I worry, especially about my Frou-frou. There's a reason she's always my avatar picture. She's my baby!

I have no idea what happened. I suspect she somehow got a cut to the back of her neck, like maybe someone pecked her to get her to move, and she scratched it to the point that it's gotten so big and nasty. It doesn't look like the others had any involvement in causing it (it's very well hidden by her feathers), but who knows. She seems alright otherwise, so I'm keeping it clean and dressed and watching out for infection for now.

She talked to me while we did dishes this morning, just talked and talked and talked! She's preening now while I check my sites. Poor girl's neck is too stiff and sore to reach her preen gland, but she's getting things done anyway and she seems content. Eating plenty, drinking when she remembers her water dish is there ( ), and having plenty of healthy droppings.

Yup, and Frou-frou's a real chatterbox! Especially when she realizes I'm nearby--she just loves to chat my ears off! The only time I can get her to stop talking is if I try to record her talking. I got some honks on video this morning, but you could tell she was on to me and didn't want to talk. I guess she doesn't want to share her voice with the world!
