Pipd's Peeps!

Sorry for the radio silence and lack of replies here, y'all! It's... been a week.

I had a lot of stress about exams and quizzes and such this week, many of which went well despite my worry. My sociology test... not so much, but I guess we'll see what the damage really is on that when that grade comes in 😬

But yesterday everything kind of screeched to a halt and my world has kind of been frozen in some kind of awful limbo since. My mom had some preliminary tests done that determined that she has cancer.

This is a tough one to post about. Her prognosis does not look bad at the moment, but we'll know more when she has it biopsied at the beginning of next month, of course. There's still that lingering shock and fear of the big C-word, though, and all of the millions of what ifs that go along with it. So I'm not having a great time at the moment with that. I'm trying to stay strong for her, of course. She already has enough to worry about as is. But it's so hard. My mom is very much one of my closest friends and probably my biggest supporter in everything I do. I really don't know what I'd do if I lose her. It's incredibly hard not to get emotional just typing this out.

Anyway, deep breaths. Keeping it together, keeping strong, keeping optimistic, and hoping for the best for now.

Let's bring things back around with some chicken tax for the week!

A sea of Cochins again! There's just so many of them out thereright now :th

Some birds patiently (?) waiting for their breakfast this morning. Featuring Izzy in the food pan, Harriet and Myrna behind her (and Amaretto way at the back right), and Freia pecking at the few pellets left from last night in the bottom right.

And lastly, an update on Georgia. Her pins are finally opening up! :love

Oh no! I feel for you. *hugs* Just hang in there as it's not always the end of the world. I have a friend who is in remission from the big C word and her prognosis was not good two years ago. The waiting is terrible tho. :hugs

Yeah school plus test are terrible. I just had a math test today.

Oh my gosh!! That is terrible! I hope she fights it well and can be there longer with you! Sending you prayers!

As always your birds are so cute even if they are naked!

Some birds do just feel scrawny until they're older and have filled out. If they're eating, I think it's likely they're okay. With as much rain as y'all have had down there, Tink's suggestion of it possibly being worms or coccidia is a good one. If you are a bit overcrowded, that can factor in such parasite infestations as well. Maybe try running a wormer through them if you haven't already and see if that helps?

The heat certainly could also be a factor! Extra light after dark is a good idea, it's generally cooler in the evening and at night so they might have a better appetite at that point. Hopefully they start filling out for you so you don't have to worry about them so much! :fl

Ooooh, I love her determination! And Rebel getting up there and encouraging them, tsk tsk!! What a crazy place for a nest! 🤣 It must just be the unseasonable warmth or something, some of my loons are suddenly broody this week, too :th
Rebel is always the encourager. ❤️That's what I'm thinking this darn heat. I'm tired of the heat and I bet they are too. It looks like it should be cooling down soon. :fl

Thank you all for the well wishes and support :hugs We're doing okay now that the initial shock of things is kind of wearing off. Just gotta stay strong 💪

That is encouraging! :hugs Yeah, the waiting is the hard part. I just want to know what to expect, you know?? But they got her in for a biopsy as soon as they could, so we'll know soon enough I suppose. :fl

Yeah school plus test are terrible. I just had a math test today.

Hope your test went well, too! :fl I have a chemistry test on Monday and another anatomy quiz on Wednesday, and then I should finally have a little more time to breathe again, at least for a little bit

Aww, haha, I love that! :love

As for the darn heat, I am glad it's subsiding, although I was kind of enjoying the dry spell and lack of mosquitoes we had along with it... But I suppose a little rain in exchange for some cooler weather is acceptable. 😁

I think I've totally lost track of what picture of the day we're on... 90-something? Ah, well, I suppose I don't really need to keep track of that.

Today's picture is Amaretto enjoying pecking bugs out of the rain-soaked leaves I dumped off their tarp covered area this morning. :love

My runner-up pictures didn't turn out great... Well, I suppose this one's okay just because PB's butt is so cute 🤭

...Anyway, I did take a video to share today, though! The birds are always so excited to head out into the woods at free-range time! 😁

That vid is adorable!

So update on the boys. I pulled the shade cloth down to cover the front of the coop they are in because the morning sun hits it just right. I also added meat bird crumble, some treat seed mix and a beetle/soldier fly larva/cricket mix and rooster booster crumble to the chick feed they are still on. Put that in two I think 10 or 12 inch round dishes and it was nearly all gone by 7:30pm. Appetite is back up now with out other treatment. I really think my overcrowding, lack of multiple feed locations, rain and heat was doing them in. I'll keep checking every few days to see if we are gaining muscle and weight.
