Pipd's Peeps!

That video is adorable, all those fluff butts 🤩

I knowww, I love them so much 🤩 I have to watch it again every time I see it, it makes me so happy. Just the crunch of the leaves and the dust flying as they all go running off happily :love

That vid is adorable!

So update on the boys. I pulled the shade cloth down to cover the front of the coop they are in because the morning sun hits it just right. I also added meat bird crumble, some treat seed mix and a beetle/soldier fly larva/cricket mix and rooster booster crumble to the chick feed they are still on. Put that in two I think 10 or 12 inch round dishes and it was nearly all gone by 7:30pm. Appetite is back up now with out other treatment. I really think my overcrowding, lack of multiple feed locations, rain and heat was doing them in. I'll keep checking every few days to see if we are gaining muscle and weight.

Sounds like you're taking the right steps to remedy the issue! Hopefully you see some good progress when you check up on them next :fl

Oh, he is gorgeous! 😍 Blue silver duckwing is one of my favorite patterns!! I actually had hoped to work on OEGBs in that variety, at least until the hawk population discovered my OEGBs and made it hard to keep them alive here. :barnie Maybe some day. Definitely keep us posted on how he fills out and how the genetic test goes!

Also I had to quote this particular picture because the little chick sitting in the cement block on the right about did me in with how adorable it is :love So, so cute!

Rainy day here. :tongue At least it's cooler, though! I took my pictures this morning so the birds were dry then. Now, not so much. 🤭

Anyway, our picture of the day is Findlay digging in the leaves :love She's starting to get her tail feathers back!

Runners up, here's Perdita who, err, well, I don't think she was into having her picture taken this morning 😬

And Judy's posthumous baby :love I finally remembered to switch her and her broodmate and the other outer coop babies over to proper leg bands today, only a few weeks behind schedule. They're all broody-raised so they were not pleased with me handling them!

Phew, another long week done! I have a nice, light homework load for the weekend, but of course it's supposed to be rainy all weekend as Helene works her way north across the country, so I won't be able to spend much time outside with the birds anyway. :barnie

At any rate, here's some chicken tax for the lack of posts this week. It's gloomy this morning, but not raining yet, so I spent extra time out there chatting with the girls. 🥰

Birchy's started into his molt and looks awfully guilty for it 🤭

Coco says, 'Are you taking pictures??'

Opal isn't here for the pictures, she just wants to get her breakfast 🤭

The Easter Judy pullet--look at that booty 😍 I've got to think of a name for her, she's a keep for sure.

A little out of focus, but Mack is just so pretty, even with his little bit of color leakage :love

And I just realized all of these pictures are of Cochins :th Oh, well!

❤️ Coco and her wittle face.
Opal looks sweet. 🥰
The unnamed pullet is gorgeous. 🤩

Something is going on with my tablet and the byc interface. I can't use the regular byc emojis and could only like your post (not love it) . 😭

Over this way, I was relishing in the fact that it seemed "normal" here in the chicken world.... But, just realized the scab on Ginger's comb is in fact 1 of 2 scabs of fowl pox. She's seems fine - acting normal and everything. But, then I noticed a spot on Mango's comb as well (my oegbs). I didn't see any other chickens with any pox scabs. But, I'm sure they will be popping up soon. I recently added a little extra vitamins and some supplements to their feed to give a boost for molting. I've also been fermenting feed. So, I'm hoping that what I've been doing to give a boost is helping them to get through this without issue.
Also, I've not mentioned this, but Mango is a little spicy. She is always running Ginger off of food when it's first offered and she runs her off if I offer treats from my hand. I added the little snot to the flock (with Rose - and Olive (RIP)) to help relieve some mating pressure from Rebel, and then it turns out she's just a different type of stressor for Ginger.
This year has been the most trying for me. 😭

No worries, I defnitely understand technical difficulties! :hugs

You should be able to type in the names for some of the BYC emojis, like :hugs is : hugs (without the space), etc. Hope things go back to working properly soon, though. That's always frustrating when tech doesn't do what it's supposed to!

One of my groups of cockerels is having a bout of fowl pox as well. Keep an eye on them, but try not to worry too much. :hugs It's spread by mosquitoes, so hard to avoid seeing in your flock at some point. The only real concern with fowl pox is if it effects the mouth and throat, 'wet' fowl pox. That kind can cause problems with eating and breathing if it gets bad enough. But 'dry' fowl pox, the kind that shows up on the face, comb, and wattles, usually doesn't have any major side effects beyond looking ugly for a bit. The pox should heal fine on their own and then the birds should have built some good immunity against any future cases 🙂

Hi, y'all! I got a bit caught up last weekend with some good old fashioned R&R and I guess I never checked back in after last Friday!

So I owe y'all a lot of tax! How about some pullets to start? They're all shaping up so nicely at this point :love

1728049603660.png

Love this little Splash baby :love (Don't mind the poo, they decided they liked that chair as a perch and, ugh, it's a mess 😅 )

1728049693176.png

Just thought that the iridescence on Vivi's feathers was pretty the other night :love

1728049843093.png

Harriet looking grumpy this morning 🤭

1728049975882.png

Sumi at the waterer (that is in need of a scrubbing, I know  ). I have one waterer hung lower for the tinies, but they always insist on standing on their tip-toes and drinking from the higher waterers anyway

1728050081242.png

And lastly, this is not a great picture, but it made me laugh anyway 🤭 A view from the feeder in Wyatt's pen this morning, with the ex-co-mamas, Inara and Morena, voraciously noshing away at their breakfast

More tax for my negligence last weekend! Kya among leaves:

My face when I realize I forgot to post my chicken pictures for the day 🤭

Fifi found a rock. This requires deep contemplation 🤔

1728165851030.png

The Easter Judy pullet again. It's looking an awfully lot like fall around here these days!

1728165902317.png

Mallow and Nora pecking in the woods :love

1728165956699.png

And Mal again, making sure that evil photo-taking device sees how imposing he is with a manly pose on a branch. Yeah, you scared it off, bud

1728166064794.png

Just a couple more pictures today! Another unnamed pullet who's shaping up beautifully :love Her beak is a little long and not curved well, but hopefully she grows into it some as she matures. :fl

1728249492246.png

And this one's grainy because I had to zoom a lot to get it, but I came around the corner to the corner coop and Gus III just froze here like this, like I caught him in the act of... Well, I'm not sure what, but he sure looks guilty of something, doesn't he? 🤭
