Pipd's Peeps!

Pics
Yay!!your chicks are so cute!!i have to get ready for my chicks!!!ther coming in 15-14 day!!!

Yay!! :weee I'm so excited for you!

I thought the dorkings always hung out togeather because in the pics their always togeather. I guess they just like their group photos.

The cherps at night are adoreable. We used to call it the sleepy songs. I hope you can get a recording of it I really miss the songs.

The silkies I know are growing by leaps and bounds. I would love to see their photos. I'm glad their getting along with everyone in the coop. Their such a gentle natured chicken.

Haha, I guess the Dorkings must like their group pictures! Actually, it probably has a lot to do with those three and Endymion running to get in the way of the camera every time I try to take pictures. I hope to get their peeps recorded tonight. :love I don't usually take very many videos of my birds, but not having chicks last year really made me regret not having more videos of babies to reminisce over now that I have them again. SIGH! I'll be sure to upload it if I get a video so you can hear their sleepy songs. :)

Silkies! Their personalities are really starting to come out now that they're integrated in the flock! They're such silly, fuzzy birds! :love

Benjamin! Ben is such a cocky little squirt! He likes to try and challenge everyone, but he never gets very far. He keeps pushing it with his dad, but Reuben is so patient with him. Some days, I wish Reub would just put the little stinker in his place already!

1000

Winter! He's so meek and skittery! I swear, he's afraid of his own shadow! I was holding Marka and just put her down nearby him, and Winter jumped way up and then darted off to hide. He usually just follows Ben around and stays out of the way.

1000

Indigo! Such a sassy little lady! She is so bold and independent from the other three. She has such a nice shape to her already, and I think she knows shes a little beauty! Can't wait to see how she fills out!

1000

Marka! Ever the calm one! She usually is near the boys, but they follow her and not the other way around. She's a clever little girl, first one to figure things out. She's so thoughtful and never seems to panic, even when the big girls are around her.

1000

Foraging together! Believe it or not, Indigo is in this picture, too, behind the plant Benjamin is looking up at.

1000

Here's a picture of the four of them that shows Indi better. :p Ben is the one giving looks.

1000

Benjamin and Indigo, just being cute. :love

1000

Here's Benjamin and Winter. :love They were sitting together like this when I first got out there to take pictures.

1000

Winter's handsome face :love I love his earlobe color!

1000

Ben looking up at me. I thought this one showed his eye color a bit better, but I guess it doesn't. :/

1000

Marky :love She was sitting by the big old cedar tree in the chicken yard.

1000

And one last one of Indigo. She always poses so nicely when there's something between her and the camera.

Thanks!!your silkies are so cute!!!

Eek, I know, they're precious! :love

Speaking of precious--Pattyhen, here's your sleepy songs. :D Just a warning, this video is pretty loud because it was recorded right down next to the babies, so if you're volume's way up, you might want to turn it town a bit before playing! There's no picture because it was dark enough in the room that the camera couldn't see anything and the light on it was disturbing the babies. It was light enough that I could see, but I guess my cell phone camera is more sensitive to darkness.

I then recorded them a second time, and during that recording, Donnie decided the phone looked like a good place to perch. You can hear him chirping in alarm about half way through it, after he realized that he was perched on that super-scary cell phone. I would have uploaded it as well (that little alarmed trill they do is so adorable :love ), but my phone died from uploading the first one, so I'll have to do it once I've plugged it in.

Thanks so much for recording the sleepy song. I absolutely love it. What a great bunch of singers their all on key.

Have a great day you made my day listening to this.

I almost missed the pics of the silkies. I was scrolling up and finally saw them. They are not babies anymore and that's so sad I always call it their teenage years when they are this size. What beautiful teenagers they are too. I've never seen a brown eyed silkie before. Ben just had to be different didn't he? I'm glad Roufus is being nice to Ben. What little stinkers they can be. Thanks so much for the update pics of them I always enjoy looking at them. Give them all a big hug from me if you can catch them.

More pictures! :D This time of the babies! They are getting so big already! They've reached the size where their little razor claws are hurting when they hop up on my legs--and especially when they decide to slide off of them and scrape the whole way! :rant The biggest culprit of that is little miss Cazzie, who has become a lap hog!

1000

Lately, I barely get seated by the brooder before they all hop out! So, I've been trying to save the carpet by putting down paper towels for them to run around on.

1000

Still, they find the littlest patch without paper towels in the corner and scratch them up so that they can carpet bathe. I let them be, because it's usually a small enough spot that they still hit the towels with their little droppings. Here's a pile of Dorkings looking awfully guilty. (Don't mind the mess...)

1000

Lydda says, "It wasn't me!"

1000

Rooska prefers to snuggle down in my hand :love

1000

Umru sitting in the corner. I think she was trying to carpet bathe, but she was missing something crucial here...

1000

Izzy kept climbing on my legs, so I put her up on my lap. This was the look I got for daring move her. Of course, Cazzie had to hop up, too, when she realized attention was to be had!

1000

Izzy :love Oh, those fuzzy cheeks!!

1000

Here's Callette posing nicely on the paper towels. :love

1000

Cazzie :love I'm not sure she was bargaining for this...

1000

Rooska, resting in my hand. I've noticed her little wing feathers are kind of tattery. I've heard that Lavenders can have frail feathers, but I thought that would occur later in life if it did!

1000

A closer look and her wing:

1000

Speaking of wings, here's Izzy trying hers out! They seem to love to play on this angled area of the tarp, like kids on a slide! Donnie and Umru kept hopping up to the top and sliding down with their wings flapping, over and over again! I missed them with the camera, though. :p

1000

Endymion and her pretty wings :love

1000

So after the paper towels had gotten messy, I put 'em all back in the brooder and fenced it off again to stop the little escape artists. Here's Donnie and Callette talking about how unfair their live are! Cazzie snuck in in the background again.

1000

"Um, excuse me, I wasn't done getting attention yet." Cazzie :love

1000

Umru stretching out her little wing. Poor gal has hardly any feathers compared to the rest of the babies!

1000

Izzy, Lydda, Flury, and Callette. Four thirsty babies! :love I guess they forgot the water was in there while they were out having fun. :p

1000

Cuties cuties cuties. They look like kids on the playground. That is so funny that they slide down the tarp. Umru must be working on growth and forgot to grow some feathers. Does she jump up on your lap at all? Izzy is going to have some beautiful cheeks. Cassie I would love to hold her. I would love to hold them all.

Thanks so much for sharing the babies pics with us. They make my day.

I'm going to my sisters today I'm going to put my toes in her pool. I can't stand cold water so I will just just sit on the side. Hope you have a great day.

:weee Happy Hatchday Crashie!! :weee

One year ago today, a little duckling worked her way out of a cracked up little egg. The one duckling I was sure wouldn't hatch--and the only one who did.

700

Here she is today! The hatchday girl!

1000

I slaved over a cutting board all afternoon to produce these beautiful Hatchday Cakes--hollowed out watermelon with diced cucumber and watermelon inside, 'frosted' with plain yogurt and decorated with diced cucumber. :D There was meant to be more veggies to fill and decorate the 'cake', but the other veggies we bought just on Friday were already moldy. :/

1000

1000

And here was the hatchday girl's reaction. "Aww, homemade cake?"

1000

After some convincing, she did eventually try it.

1000

Lookit her little tongue sticking out! :love

1000

Since Crashie is way too small to eat all that 'cake', she generously donated the rest to the girls outside. As you can see, they were more than willing to dispose of it for her. :p

1000

Everyone was so focused on the first one I sat down that Skua, Freema, and Kate got this one to themselves.

1000

That is, until Marka noticed! :love She never came close enough to try it, though.

1000

Back at the first 'cake', it had already been eaten to the point of being unrecognizable!

1000

Looks like Rosie the little Sebright hit the cake a little hard. Or she's saving some for later!

1000

And the fuzzies are still trying to get a taste of it!

1000

Back with Crashie, I had given her a bit of diced cucumber and yogurt to eat instead. She seemed to be enjoying it, at least!

1000

You can tell by her smiling face. :love

1000

She was much more interested in my attention than her treat while I was taking pictures, though. "Who, me?"

1000

The real fun began when I took a sample up to the babies. They were terrified!

1000

They wanted to run over to me, but I had put a dish of diced cucumber and yogurt between myself and them... and it was so scary looking!

1000

After a few moments, they started inching closer...

1000

...And eventually, they warmed up to the idea! :D

1000

"You mean this is really food?" :love Lydda watching closely as Cazzie ate some cucumber.

1000

Callette and Lydda kind of took over. Because there just weren't enough feet in this food to make it palatable.

1000

This last one relates more to your question, Pattyhen. Umru hopped up into my lap for the first time. :D Look how B-I-G she is already!!

1000

All in all, I think Crash and the girls enjoyed their party. Crashie will get her real hatchday present in a week or so, though I'm not entirely sure how much she'll actually like it... ;)

Wow the party looked to be a huge success. Crash is really a miracle the only egg that was cracked and she hatched. She is such a cutie. I'm glad she shared with all of her friends. The babies are so scared of new things but I'm glad they got over that and munched out on the food. There is usually a taste tester in the bunch. If they like everybody has to try it. I'm so happy Umru finally decided a lap was a good place to be. She is huge and beautiful. I loved the pic of Rosie with the yogart on her face and Crash with her tongue out. Thanks so much for sharing her special day with us.

Have a great day my great granddaughter is coming over today. I'm looking forward to spending the day with her.
