Pipd's Peeps!

Pics
We had a big storm roll through and it's cooled off nicely here for the girls outside. Unfortunately, Sora passed away toward the end of the storm. I was expecting her to pass soon, and I'm okay. As okay as one can be for having lost two pets in one day, anyway. My brother is performing cremations on the two of them, since most of the space for gravesites has been taken up over the years. My sister pointed out that we do have a lot of acreage here so there is plenty of room for burials, but I just prefer them to be closer to the house. When they are cremated, I can spread their ashes in the woods as a send off. I think that's a nice way to say goodbye and send them back to their ranging grounds without the risk of a scavenger coming around and dragging off their remains.

Trying to look on the bright side of things. We did just get a bunch of lumber today, so we can start the building project I've been wanting to do. I don't know if I have talked about it a lot here, but essentially, we're building an 8x16 foot covered and fenced in 'porch' on the front of the coop so that the girls can be locked in securely and also have access to fresh air, especially in times like over the winter when we inevitably have a hawk attack. I'm looking forward to finishing this, especially since I won't have to feel as guilty about sleeping in while the girls are still locked in once it's finished. I'll keep updating on it as we build, but we aren't going to start until the ground dries and this heat advisory we've been put under has passed.

I'm sorry you lost Sora today too. This has been a sad day.

I'm glad you got a storm and it cooled it down. The last time I looked at the weather it was 94 with a heat index of 104 earlier today. I'm not even going to put the ducks in the coop tonight. It's way to hot in that coop. They can sleep in the yard and we will let Ozzie the dog sleep outside. Ozzie patrols the fence at night. The chicken coop I'm going to put a fan in the doorway and shut the screen door.

That will be nice when you get your screened porch on the front of the coop. You will have to get them some rocking chairs for their porch when you get it done.

Take care of yourself and get some rest.

I've been following for a while but just haven't had the time to respond. So sorry to hear about your losses. Life really stinks sometimes.

But these hard times will pass as all hard times do... It's not easy, but you just have to keep looking up. Remember the lovely life your pets lived and never forget them. Here's to good vibes from here on out... Good luck with with coop porch. I'm sure it will put your mind at ease.

Thank you both, yesterday was quite rough. Today is hot and humid, but at least it's a pretty day with lots of sun. I've got a bunch of frozen bottles for the girls, so here's hoping they pull through fine. Everyone seems good (knock on wood), and they're enjoying the cool, damp earth from our rain yesterday.

I was initially saddened upon waking up to Reub and Ben crowing without Donnie's strangled accompaniment, but when I checked on Skua first thing after getting up, she was being such a goof that I couldn't help but smile. She's doing fabulously, by the way. No signs of larvae in her wound (thanks to the SWAT ointment!) and we're keeping it packed with Neosporin so that it can heal and she can get outside again.

I gathered up all the feathers Don had lost in the cat carrier I had him in there at the end and folded them into a piece of paper for safe keeping. This will go with the rest of the feathers I've kept from lost hens. Unfortunately, Sora hadn't lost any feathers recently, and by the time I thought of taking some to keep, it was too late because my brother has already taken care of their remains. :/ Oh, well.

Looking forward to having a nicer day today. Maybe I'll take some pictures of the girls later. If it isn't too hot, that is!

Your very welcome I just wish I could have done more.

I'm so happy Skua is doing better. She is so lucky you found her before it was to late.

I hope everything goes well for you today. You deserve a break.

Here's where I just have to laugh. Okay, I shouldn't, but it's just been so ridiculous here that today just humored me. I kept finding little spots of blood on shavings and such and thinking that it was too fresh to have come off of Skua since she's been inside for a few days. Welp, I was right. Kate cut her foot or something and was bleeding. But at least it was a relatively easy fix up, and no one else is sickly or dying! Kate is back outside already with a bandaged up foot and she's not happy at all with how it clashes with her stripes! Some force out there wants me to have a lot of first aid experience this week.

No worries about not being able to do more, Pattyhen. :) Just having somewhere to vent is help enough for me, even if I do feel bad for unloading so much bad stuff all at once like the past few days!

Well I'm glad Kate was an easy fix for you even tho her bandage doesn't go with her stripes.

Do not feel bad about venting. All you went threw you had to let off steam somewhere.

Have a nice evening and chill.

Kate is putting her full weight on her bandaged foot this morning. Hooray!

Also, look who got Other Poultry Pic of the Week--the Guinea Boys! :D And they actually spelled my username right this time!!

I've been working on a ducky page, guess I'll get that finished up here soon. I also have mostly put together a really neat flock page to replace the current one. If it works right, this one will let you click on the names of the birds and jump down to the section of the page they're in! :) So I'll be working on that over the weekend.

That's great that Kates foot is mending and she is putting weight on it now. I entered Spiderman and Mary Jane in that contest too . I'm so happy for the guinea boys getting the award. They are so cute I love guineas. I saw that pic on the website and I didn't even know it was your boys. Glad things are looking up for you and things are going better.

Let me know when you get the ducky page done I would love to look at it.

Have a great day.

Did you make a page for them? Link? :D I wondered if it would happen, because it doesn't seem like there are that many 'other poultry' pages, but I was surprised at how soon it happened. My Guinea boys are representing!

And here you go, the Little Ducky page, just finished: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/pipds-peeps-little-duckies
