It'll be interesting to see what their broodiness is like! I similarly have two Cochin pullets (Nora included!) who were broody-raised and several more from the same biological parents who were raised in a brooder, so I'll be keeping an eye on them to see if there's a noticeable difference in their broodiness. My BBS line of Cochins has been only moderately broody, especially compared to the Red line I have who are absolutely insane with their broodying, so a difference in broodiness should be pretty apparent.

Oh that will be interesting to test out you must test and hatch tons of chicks, for the sake of science and knowledge...

It seems like we both have an interesting experiment on our hands! Yours will be slightly more "proper", given that you have a lot more birds that are part of the experiment. Hopefully we'll get some interesting results!

It seems like we both have an interesting experiment on our hands! Yours will be slightly more "proper", given that you have a lot more birds that are part of the experiment. Hopefully we'll get some interesting results!

Of course, in either case it's a fairly small sample size, so I guess that means Tink is right and I do need to hatch more to properly test this

Well, if it is so important to have a larger sample size, I am planning a hatch of 20-30 serama eggs, which will be incubated in the incubator. They're a very broody breed, after all

If we want to be scientific about it, a larger sample size gives more weight to any conclusions we come to. Results from a small sample like what we have here could just as easily be coincidence as it could be correlation. If it happens with consistency in a larger sample, then that gives more weight to there being a cause and effect relationship. I never remember what the suggested bare minimum sample size is for tests like these, though. I want to say like 20 or 30? So your hatch fits in there just right!

My sample size is pretty small, 2 broody-raised pullets and 7 pullets raised by me in the brooder, all out of the same parents. Some of those 7 brooder pullets are not meant to be keepers, though, so really my sample is even smaller than that. But results from them can be added to results from future hatches, too, I suppose...

Exactly. This experiment can go on for many hatches, since we both lack broody raised birds fit for it

I keep forgetting to post this, but Nora's been doing great outside, by the way! She wasn't exactly welcomed back with open, err, wings, chickens just are like that, but she's not being harassed or attacked or anything, so they must remember her well enough to accept she's part of the flock. These are pictures from when I first took her back out on the 10th:

How's Miss Nora doing?

She's doing great! I haven't seen any signs of anyone picking on her or anything, and I even saw her sass one of the other birds a couple days ago. A bit of the scabbing closer to her eye and ear has started falling off, so her face is looking a bit more normal as well. I'll see about getting updated pictures of her face today to show her progress.
