Day 28's picture is of Harr--Err... it's of Roha... I guess...

Roha is quite an unusual personality in the flock. She doesn't really want my attention; very much like the Leghorn she is, she's quite flighty and will flee if I so much as lean toward her for any reason. However, she also gets jealous when I give attention to anyone else in her line of sight and will either put herself in the way like this or will posture and peck at the bird getting the attention to chase them off. Talk about a bird lacking in the brain cell department!


As a runner up for picture of the day, mere moments before the above one was taken, here was Harriet sitting peacefully on her own with a certain somebirdy heading toward us in the background...

Lost all but 8 in the new pen when the tarp got ripped off in the 70+ winds. No rosecombs made it or silkies from that pen. Just some of the Brahmas, Crevecoeur and my own BYMs.

Saved two from wet chill by cuddling them in a towel close to my skin to get them warm.

Heartbreaking. I am so, so sorry that happened Were your little OEGBs among them as well? I'm glad you were able to warm a couple of them back up at least.

We're getting the rainy remnants of Beryl today so the birds aren't coming out much. I almost forgot to take any pictures for day 29's picture of the day, and then all of what I took turned out lousy anyway because of the dimness and everyone keeping to shelter for the most part, so here's the only halfways decent one: Sylvie's booty as she fled from me and the camera

No the OEGB are in a stilled outdoor brooder that took no damage thankfully.

Goodness, Ursula sounds like a character! Is that why Cruella had to nest and hatch her babies way up on that wall??

To be completely fair to Juni, she really is a gentle girl, she's just bigger than, and therefore quite intimidating to, the little ones. I'm not honestly sure why she chose to sit in the doorway and cause a roadblock for them yesterday. But she never once pecked at them or anything as they darted by!

Yup! Or at least, that's my theory. Can't think of another reason both Cruella and Lady Gaga would think it's a good spot to brood

Seems like Juni is more respectful than Ursula. Ursula looooves to peck everyone. I seriously think something might be wrong with her mental development. She does a lot of behaviours that I wouldn't expect to see from a bird her age
