Pipped near top I am not sure if I should assist?

I am not the best one for telling people how to do it. I know how to do it, I just can't explain it very well. Maybe @Pyxis or @WVduckchick can help you.
Thank you! I am holding off on doing anything. But...i am a judgement call kind of gal and if instincts kick in they will override...i am thankful the bill is exposed and breathing...i did see him yawn. Does that mean he is not ready and still absorbing yolk?

Sorry I’ve been out of touch!

Pipping the wrong end takes even more extra time, because it didn’t use the air in the air cell. So I’d try to wait at least until it’s pushing 60 hours or so. (48 normal, plus 24 for air cell being skipped). But keep a watch on the membrane and if it gets too dark, the duckling may be too stuck to turn to zip.

Good luck!

And if/when you feel the need to assist, start by chipping away the shell on the pointed end. Watch for bleeders, and stop if you get much bleeding.
Don’t pull the duckling from the shell, even if you remove one end. Let it push its way out. Usually they won’t push until they are fully absorbed and ready to do so.

Wow!! Never even thought about the air cell skipping and adding the extra time that is very helpful!! We start chipping at the shell in elliptical direction somewhere the pip is at the pointy end. As this was being done coconut oil was applied on all exposed membrane as it was super dry. Day 30 and its a Cayuga..big fella/gal...i can see its right wing is smooshed against its beak in a malposition..he is working hard pushing against it and is still chirping ...what a fighter. He has been at this since first thing this morning. I have it back in the bator. Will give it another 24 but dont be upset please don't be upset if i reach back out before then if i feel something takes a turn. Otherwise i am so grateful to you and to all who have worked hard to help!! Love this community!!
