Pipping at wrong end and dry membrane!

look now, because if there is yolk left he needs making safe so he doesnt rupture it, dont pull him out, but just look carefully at his tummy area, make sure theres no yolk sac there.
Hes trying to get out right now and its difficult to tell since 1. his foot is in the way and 2. he keeps moving but I don't see any yolk. If there is when he comes out, I have a cup ready just in case.
I'm really surprised, when I opened the incubator it was just a huge whiff of maple syrup! Do all ducklings smell like that? It seems really good lol.

You'll probably notice in the last two pics, hes in my hand on a blanket. Well.. we've got some bad news..
Our heat lamp doesn't have it where you can set the temp. so it keeps going up and up (it went to almost 200F) so I have to keep him warm while we get a new lamp and probably wont have one until around 6pm (currently 2:48pm) and I was wondering if anyone knew any tips on keeping this little one warm?

Keep him in a blanket and close to your body
I only use a 75 watt bulb for my heat lamp
You can also bit him in the bator if you feel he is chilly
They can stay in there up to 48 hours
So glad baby hatched abd is doing great :)
Love happy endings

hes adorable!
To fix the temperature issue, just raise the lamp up further away and leave it on for a short while, keep an eye on it as they are more of a fire hazard than other ways of heating. They should be able to escape the heat, so heat lamps work best for large brooders.
Personally if I were you, I'd get a brooder plate instead of another lamp.
For now, he'll be okay cuddled up to you!

Thank you, we did get a brooder plate but I have only one more concern.
Hes.. extremely attached to me.
I expected it, I'm not surprised at all but he keeps trying to jump out of the brooder (of course he can't, well, for now) hes chirping EXTREMELY loud which I'm fine with but it just breaks my heart because he sounds in distress because I'm gone.
He doesn't want to eat or drink, I got him to eat once and he drank maybe 2-3 times but besides that he doesn't want to eat or drink.
He has two mini stuffed animals in the brooder with him and duckling noises playing but hes still looking for me and I feel so bad. I'd love to cuddle with him but I can't be there for him when I'm sleeping and plus he needs heat, food, and water.

I think he'll settle down after a while but do you have any advice for him not wanting to eat and drink?

Can you put a mirror in there with him?

Sounds like he may have imprinted on you as his mom.

its normal for them to not eat or drink much for the first day. Just keep an eye on him, make sure he knows where they are, and he'll be fine. It is heartbreaking when they cry for you! I had it with my two. Does he have the brooder plate? Make sure it's adjusted to the correct height, there should be an instruction manual, if not I can direct- and perhaps put him under a few times so he learns to use it..
A mirror can help with loneliness, as well as the plushies. He'll adjust!
My girls would go quiet once I sung to them, then turned the light out, and sung to them or spoke to them until they fell asleep. After a couple days they got into this routine and knew what to expect, and would go to sleep after the light went out.

Yeah he does have the brooder plate, hes staying under it at the moment.
Hes fell asleep in the brooder finally but before that all he wanted to do was curl up in my neck or hands and fall asleep, he wouldn't fall asleep in my hands unless I covered him all the way with my hands and he could put his beak through my fingers.
Out of Tansy and Dapple, only Tansy is alive in the egg so if she hatches hopefully he'll have a buddy within 5 days to a week.
