It is good of you to be pleased for those managing to hatch some chicks.I am only on lock down tonight with half the amount of eggs I started with so we will see what happens. All the best for future attempts.

Hi TXmom, did you manage to open your egg? If so what did you find? My hatch before this one was poor, I had 6 fertile eggs out of ten and 4 of those died at various stages so it was a real learning experience when I opened them.I had one that was full grown with all the yolk absorbed but it had no egg tooth and I do not know if this is a frequent problem or not. One that had died with quite a bit of unabsorbed yolk had a tiny egg tooth started so what age does the tooth start at ? I have had only a very little experience at hatching.Once in the long distant past and then three weeks ago and this batch that is on lock down now so it is great to get help here. None of the eggs I opened smelled bad, I don't know why, I thought they would.

Yes someone did suggest duct tape. I think you suppost to have your other half tape it around your hands behind your back and then sit you on chair and tape you to that too.

gin bart - too late it was getting crowded in there and there is a guy who had been pipped for 24 hours. I don't think he going to make it.

The happy news.

7 chicks (bargain's speckeld sussex are a 100% hatch)
7 pips
and the lame "duck" still working on the zip

I know many of my eggs were probably many hours into the development stage. 16 shipped from georgia and the other 24 were collected for about 5 days.

I think my bator runs a little warm more like 100 instead of 99.5

They are all LF, none of my banty eggs developed past day 6 or so.(they were shipped)

Here are the photos!!!

I opened up that blue egg that Sammie pushed out. There was nothing...it never developed at all. That seems weird since I could see a blob (the yolk)...because I can't see the yolk when I candle an egg out of the fridge. Oh well...glad it was just white and yolk, instead of a dead embryo.

I haven't done much candling at all, so I candled last night (day 17) and I see another one that looks possibly clear. It's a white egg from one of my Leghorns, I'm not sure what color...Danish Brown or Ideal 236(white). I'm such a newbie and really unsure of myself, so I just left it there. I'll let her push it out

nothing from the americauna egg yet. It wasn't technically due till yesterday. I am sure I saw movement previously.

I may let DH open it tonight if there is nothing. Or should I leave it until day 25?

I left my eggs till day 25...but that's just because I was so afraid of throwing away a living egg. By day 25 you know they're definitely dead.

TxMom, doesn't your broody mind you candling the eggs? My broodies always got very upset when you messed with the nest. She must be very forgiving!
