I have a question. Let's say, hypothetically, that some of these eggs turn into chicks. Then the instructions say to pull out the plugs so they can dry out, but what about the rest of the eggs? They don't need the humidity to keep doing whatever it is they're doing?
Quote:
Don't turn your bator off until all the eggs are hatched. Wait until day 25. The chicks that hatch can stay in the bator for 24 to 48 hours after they are born.
I never put the plugs in from day 1 to the hatch.I don't have any problems keeping the humidity up plus they get more oxygen that way as well.I lockdown at 70-73% humidity-it's what works here the best for us.I also pull my chicks out within a few hours of hatching or wait if several have pips and working to get out so I don't have to open more than necessary.Very seldom will I loose any humidity.I draw the chick to an edge furthest away from the unhatched eggs with a bright light then as I grab the chick thru a very small opening the kids mist.
So far only 2 chicks have not hatched for me that have made it to lockdown and when we opened one it had a severely deformed head and couldn't have survived.3 Buff Rocks hatched earlier today are already eating and drinking with the other chicks in the baby playpen(brooder sounds so boring these kids have fun)
8 more to go then almost 3 weeks off until the next 120 or so are ready to hatch
