Im going to take your post by paragraphs.all of the things that you describe are the tactics of bad breeders and irresponsible owners. To use their actions to condemn the breed (and pit breeders as a whole) would be like calling to ban chickens. After all, hatcheries put rooster chicks in a giant blender. And factory farms shove them all into tiny cages and have to rip their little beaks off just to keep them from killing each other. And don't forget the people who buy cute little chicks at Easter and then dump them once the kids lose interest. Or have an uncleaned smelly coop attracting hordes of vermin in their backyard in the suburbs. After all, it happens frequently. Wouldn't it just be easier to wash our hands of the whole mess?
Also, cropping ears and docking tails started with an actual purpose. Now that some countries have banned them (especially docking tails) vets are finding that they are having to do amputation surgeries on adult dogs. Why? Because the dogs are bred for hunting or other activities and they break their tails a LOT. That is why the practice of docking started - because a few minutes of pain as a puppy is much easier than a very painful procedure as an adult. Have you seen an ear-cropping done by someone who knows what they are doing? The pups whimper and cry for a couple minutes but by the time you put them on the floor with mom they are paying no attention to it.
You mentioned rotties? you don't crop ears on a rottweiler. Now dobes have cropped ears - know why? Because they are bred to do protection work. In a fight the longer ears gave a handle for the bad guy to hold onto and try to over-power the dog. Also, in a fight ears are easily torn and cause a lot of pain and bleeding. Same goes for cropping ears on most terrier breeds - they are bred to hunt vermin and fight their way through tunnels and brush. Uncropped ears are an injury waiting to happen.
Yes I was describing what BAD people do to PittBulls. I condemn the People Not the Breed. I was trying to make a point of WHY there's a night and day difference between, the pittbulls you see on the News, Vs Allmychickens Picture of That Pittbull. Once again, I do not condemn pittbulls. I have owned them most of my life enjoy them and have right now a Aussie/Pitt Mix.
I do agree that at One Point, Docking of tails and ears served an important function. And I believe in those types of breeds tail docking and ear cropping is a smart thing. But I DO NOT believe its Okay to dock the tail or crop the ears of a dog just for the Superficial, "IT LOOKS COOL, S/HE LOOKS MEANER, THATS WHAT EVERYONE DOES" Bull ****.
My Brother cropped Torks (his pitt bulls) ears and now theres not only nerve damage and thick scar tissue. The dog Whines everytine I put P.J on his ears he cries murder even though Im just trying to keep the flies at bay.
Tork is Not used for fighting. He was beautiful with his ears... What was the use of cropping his ears for? He sits in a kennel. He doesnt Hunt. He's not used in a Pitt. Whats the use? Oh Ill tell you, My brother is a egotistical ******* who likes torks ears clipped because tork gives him a ego boost now when he walks him. (does that sound fair to the dog??)
(sorry I harbor hostility towards him for this)
I used the rottie as a "FOR INSTANCE" "As in if you see a dog that has been used in the pitt it get loose. would be scarier than seeing-----" uh huh. Just used the wrong dog in the text. My Mistake.
"Uncropped ears are an injury waiting to happen" Ok, I agree, if you still use terriers to chase vermin and fight their way through tunnels and brush. If you use your Doberman to chase bad guys and have dogs that want to tear each other to bits. Please, by all means, crop away.
If your terrier sits at home, sleeps, eats and gets love. If your doberman protects your house from human bad guys. WHATS THE POINT OF CROPPING EARS?
But just so we are on the same page. I love pittbulls. I hate the idiots that teach them its okay to be aggressive and breed for it. They are destroying a beautiful breed and giving it a bad name.
