PITBULL ATTACK!!!

Well, when I saw this post I was just going to put a "me too!" because my neighbor's pit bull has killed two of my chickens. One was a couple of weeks ago, and the other was an hour ago - I happened to walk outside just as it was streaking by me, chasing my pullets. I ran after it, screaming, and caught up to it as it had one of my Columbian Wyandotte's in its mouth. I started screaming at it and pulling at its collar (maybe I should have shouted "drop it" but I wasn't thinking) and in two seconds "Dandelion" was dead. My daughters and I haven't been able to stop crying. This dog also chased our 13 year old cat 20 feet up a tree, from which she fell and had to go to the vet because she was limping so badly afterward. I am not a hater - not of the dog, who can't help it, but of the owner, who recently moved next door and knows his animals has a taste for mine. Sadly, my chickens will never be allowed out of the coop again after tonight. Not much of a life I can give them - thinking I should give them away.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

You have a very insensitive, irresponsible neighbor, if he allows his dog(s) to go onto other peoples property. Dog owners must control their dogs no matter what breed they are.

Thanks, Sunny. We were pretty shaky last night. Today I called the dog warden to see what our options are, and she's going to talk to him (lotta good that's going to do.) I'll also call my neighbors, who are this guy's landlord, to let them know he's a problem. (The dog warden says she's had to talk to him before because he doesn't clean up the dog's poop when he walks it.)

We are grieving over poor dandelion!

Such cute puppies and I enjoyed seeing all the pictures of the other pits. We lost our Bruce 5 years ago and he was the best dog I ever had, a really big baby. Still miss him.

Thats all dogs. ._.

How about pouty puppy faces??? Here's my little guy, almost 4 months old now, all worn out from playing. He is a great little guy, doing very well with the birds. Our only casualties have been some flip flops, and a doggy bed. He is a happy little guy and doing very well! The indoor cat is teaching him manners, and everyone that comes over, comments what a nice puppy he is. He doesn't jump, or go wacko, just greets everyone with a smile and a tail wag.
What a cute face, nap time indeed! Sounds like your doing great with him.
Oh and RIP flip flops and doggy bed! Gotta love puppyhood!

Awwww! We have a mini pit bull we are fostering right now who is our flock guardian. She's barely 40 lbs but enough to keep the coons away.

I'm glad I saw this! I just brought home two chicks with gimpy legs. We hatched them in my classroom and the farmer said he would kill and malformed chicken :( so they live with me now and my 2 year old pit mix. I'm very nervous to introduce them! He's mostly pit then he has French bulldog, Pomeranian and mini Shetland sheepdog. I hope he does ok :/

Thought i was going tonhate this thread but I LOVE IT! Wish i could post pics of my 2 flock guardians Sabre and Dozer both APBT's.
