The father is…

I'm thinking Pyrenees on this one. The colors look coyote, but that could be from the mother. (A picture of both mother and possible Pyrenees father would be helpful!) Due to the ears, I'm definitely saying the Pyrenees. Aussie's ears are up somewhat anyways, and if the father was a coyote, then the ears would be obviously up. The Pyrenees ears are down, which is causing this pups ears to be down. Beautiful pup, btw!

My bets on Pyrenees, I've seen a few pyr mixes with similar coloration. Size will help once the pup is older.

She looks like some of the Aussie x Pyrenees puppies I have seen. All of the coydogs I have seen remind me more of a dingo body and head shape wise. Who knows though and I’m curious now so keep us updated!
I’m especially interested in opinions like both of yours where you’ve seen similar mixes. I have not and therefore have nothing to compare it to.

I’ve also never had a pup with a personality like this one. Strangely intelligent and aloof. The intelligence could come from the Aussie and the aloofness from the Pyrenees, but its an odd combination. I’ve raised bulldogs my entire life, and retrievers, curs, misc. hunting dogs, and yard mutts on the periphery. This personality is all together different. Could be because the LGD is a different personality from a different behavioral genetic tree from what amounts to hunting and blood-sport dogs I’ve always raised.

Or maybe its half-wild? I would guess it would be timid. Timid it isn’t. But its still something very different than I’m used to. Genius level intelligence compared to even smart dogs like Catahoulas at the same age.

Hey speaking of Catahoulas…are you familiar with them??

Look at the thickness of those legs! And the wide shoulders and hips. That confirms the Great Pyrenees is the daddy, to my eye.

The only thing that's similar is the coloring, like an adult coyote, but coyote pups start a lot lighter, without the black.
And I think your puppy's color is going to shift as she grows.

Very. I love them. I had to rehome my last one 2 years ago, who was excellent, but I couldn’t keep her home and she was leading my entire pack off and causing problems for the local hunters. My farm is 40 acres in the middle of the woods. I have no close neighbors. The surrounding properties are timber lands leased for deer hunting. At some point I want to fence my entire perimeter. But until I do, I have to trust the dogs not to delve too deep in the woods away from home. My old coon hound was pretty good about not traveling more than a quarter mile most of time. My last Catahoula would dive all the way in and come out on the homesteads far away while running deer. Which made her unpopular with hunters.

What do you want to know about them?
