We're trying to "pretty up" the side of the house where we park the cars (and will build a garage in a few years). We have a big covered porch, and we like to put things under it for winter storage, and to just keep the lawn from getting too cluttered up. Unfortunately, it looks pretty awful when you pull in and park since you see all of the kids' bikes, strollers, coolers, hoses, etc that we've put under there. My solution? Make one of those vertical pallet planters so that it looks pretty all summer, and then plow snow so we can't see it in the winter.

I've got plastic stapled to the back, it's filled with dirt, and today I'm hoping to put all of the slats on the front, and get it painted. However, I'm considering stapling landscape fabric to the front, and then cutting out holes where I plant my annuals. That would eliminate me being able to plant things as seeds in there though, and I was thinking about putting zinnias in it. Thoughts?

I'm also considering putting some veggies in there....maybe some bush beans? could I do salad greens? The location gets a little sun in the morning, shade until about 3pm, and then is sunny for the rest of the day. Right now I have some lobelia and alyssum to get it started, and some pink zinnia seeds.
