Plastic Mesh in Incubator

Hi All,

My incubator has a plastic mesh bottom. Should I add a layer of paper towels or something on it so the chicks don't slip around? It's day 20. Also, when I moved the eggs from the egg turner, it was difficult to then lay the eggs large side up like I originally had them. They are on their sides now. Should I have used something to prop them up a bit? TIA

That is not true. Please research what you say before telling it to others and causing them worry. To the OP, they will be fine as long as none of them have pipped, in which case, do not open the incubator.

If you do open it, make sure the eggs are in basically the same position they were when they were in the incubator.

Opening the incubator during lockdown won't kill them.

I open the incubator sometimes if needed when there's pipped chicks. I always add water to make up for lost humidity.

Yeah, I forgot about that. I'm pretty hands-off unless the chick needs help hatching.

Paper towel isn't needed. They can grip the holes in the platform/mesh with their toes.

My incubator have a plastic mesh for the lockdown period and the chicks hatch just fine and don't slip. Mine has the water under the mesh, so in that case I wouldn't put anything on the mesh, I think it would limity the amount of humidity that go up to where the eggs are. During lockdown there is no need to keep the eggs up as when they're in the turner.
