The run is 6' long and 42" deep. The height is 6' in the front and angles back. I have 8 six week old br pullets in there right now. When they reach broiler size, 6 of them will be going to freezer. There seems to be plenty of space for them.. no issues with fighting so far!

OMG!!! This is awesome, you did a wonderful job on that...now I wish I had done mine different...how did you anchor roost? I still need to do this to mine...last night I just put up a few large tree limbs at an angle...

You have for sure given hope to that woman on this post that cant afford a coop...and needs an easy way out...mine is cheap cheap...money is tight, so I used it like this...

Now you have me thinking though....

I didn't anchor it down. The weight was enough that I didn't think it would blow over or anything. I just used silicone caulk around the botton on the outside and inside to keep it watertight, then screwed down some triangle shaped 2x4 scraps in the corners to keep it from sliding anywhere. The roost was just screwed to the sides using thick screws that had a lot of close threads. It seems pretty solid, but I think once the birds get a little older I will add some triangular supports on each end. And when it gets colder I will cover the windows with clear plastic. I'd like to put use plexi-glass but the plastic is free. (I have a roll sitting in the garage left from a landscaping project last summer.)

I think I spent around $140 total on it. ($80 for the roll of hardware cloth and $45 for the roofing material, plus a 3 or 4 2x4's) Most all of the lumber is recycled. I had to pull out a LOT of old nails and staples, lol! And we already had old cans of paint and screws and different odds and ends in the garage left over from other projects.

I tried to make it as neat looking as possible. It is right outside my kitchen window and I didn't want to look at it all winter wishing I had done something different! I'm slightly OCD.

I think I have coop envy!

Wow HHR! You did a great job!! Got me thinking now what I can do with mine. I've got all kinds of scrap wood and stuff around that I have been collecting for projects. Just haven't gotten to the projects yet.

2tx--You've done a great job. Probably much better than I will accoplish. Remember my original coop was voted one of the UGLIEST!!

Keep up the good work ladies!! (and guys)

HHR i have that exact playhouse in my back yard. Just having to wait for a two year old to out grow it. I'm planning something very similar for some bantams. I'm figuring on 4 hens and a roo. Also thinking about making it into a tractor. Love the idea of a town of these. My half acre is sure getting smaller. lol

Great idea. The play houses are just what I have been looking for. I have been to yard sales, check CL each day. I know I will find some sooner or later. You guys did a super job putting it all together. I love to recycle.
