Hi everyone
Can i please please have some opinions on my little hatchling. I came home 5.30 last night to find an egg pipped so Im not sure when it started. Now it has been 24 hrs (at least) and he hasn't made much progress. He is moving and chirping so seems ok but when do I need to help, if at all?
I know they can be slow but if tomorrow he's no further ahead, can someone tell me what to do.

The first pic is this progress last night ...the second is tonight
Really would like some info on this please:bow

you'll get different opinions on this. I'd leave it alone as you can do more harm than good by interfering. The hole means it's got air, and the absorbed yolk will give it energy for another day at least. It just needs to rest between sessions. Any sign of the others coming out?

To be on the safe side, give it just a little more time. Typically chicks that have been pipped for over 24hours usually need assistance coming out of the egg in my experience.

What you can do is carefully begin removing the shell (not the membrane) and use a wet q-tip to dab along the membrane to make it a little easier for them to break free. If still nothing, then you will need to assist the hatch. There is a good article on here that explains this is detail.

Good luck :(

What is the % humidity in the bator? If it's above 70% you could be looking at a 'stuck' chick, which is caused by high humidity during the hatch.
If it is stuck, then assistance will be needed.

Thanks for that...Yes ...another one has just started to pip and seems a bit quicker than the other one...his pip is about the same size as my problem childs, but I'm hoping he won't slow down and will start to zip.
I am hesitant to "assist" but if he's like this tomorrow morning i will be getting worried and maybe i will have to as I don't want him to die :(!

YouTube has some good videos to help. Watch some first. But I say give it time it looks to have done a lot of work probably resting. Be very careful if u assist, any blood stop and give it time.

I assisted a few of my first hatch, membranes were really thick they couldn’t break threw it. I chipped the shell all around and broke the outter membrane only. The chick then started pushing so I put it back in the incubator to finish on its own. That way it came out when ready.

Thanks so much, I may have to help but will give him tonight to get moving! I shall find and read that article, but if I take off some of the shell I'm wondering how much to remove? And I assume I'd have to be quick to get him back in the incubator?
