Please can someone take a look at my chickens poop?

If nothing else, it might help ease your mind. I've never had crop issues here [knock on wood!!!] so all I know is what I've read. One last thing I thought of....turmeric. We can get it here as a vitamin supplement. Turmeric is used in making pickles, Indian food and it is also a blood cleanser. Both red cell and lymphatic. I'm not saying this is her issue, but maybe a little sprinkled on her feed would help her clear whatever it is going on. It sounds to me that there is something underlying here. I'd say it probably isn't too bad, obviously not bad enough to show up on tests, but enough to make her slow in healing. Maybe even slightly anemic.

As for your father-in-law....I have a recipe book here somewhere that shows you how to turn vegan food into 'steaks', 'ham steaks', etc.. Turn about is fair play right? Lol, if I can lay hands on it, I'll PM you with a couple of the ideas and maybe you can shock him for a change!

i like the turmeric idea thanks its worth a try for sure.
love the idea of shocking in laws!lol :)
btw ive got the probiotic but havnt given it to her yet cos i thought i have to wait to finish the antibiotics,is that right? id give it now and after but its £15 a sachet!!

Shell: I hope that crop doesn't start acting up. I know the stress is extremely hard and you have been at this for a long time. Is her crop empty in the mornings? The bleeding is of concern considering its almost two weeks. The anesthia is so hard on their little systems. Gaining weight is definitely a positive sign and her comb being a bit pail is most likely she hasnt been laying for awhile for now.

Now I'm going to gross you uninitentially =). Bare with me Shell, as we know she likes protein. Liver is high in iron and I believe the best in iron. Ok here I go, feed it to her raw. Best way and she will love it. Maybe get hubby to do it for you. This will help keep her going until her bleeding will stop. Now go and get some liver. :)

ew liver!! lol ill think about it haha.
the crop is seeming ok , hard to say if it emptys completly because i leave food in the coop for the morning, i cant have her without food ever because of her habit of 1 bingeing and 2 eating things she shoulnt. but its staying small and the bras working great! think my paranoia gets the best of me at times! poop still bloody :(

Ive also heard about the liver. And there's something along the lines that it has a clotting factor to it. Cowcreek geek gave me that tidbit on here and hes highly researched on his chooks.

Sorry shell. Lol. There's most likely basis to the liver trick. :p

Truth...CowCreekGeek and I have talked about it as well. If you don't want to give her the probiotic now, that's fine...just get some plain yougurt and feed that to her. They seem to really like it and if you get the right one, it'll have all the good bacteria in it. Just a teaspoon at a time, maybe sprinkled with a bit of her food to show her it really is good stuff, lol. You need to find someone who can cut the liver up into small pieces for you. How about your F.I.L.? I bet he'd love the irony [yuck, yuck] of the situation. Sorry couldn't resist, lol. Seriously, if someone would cut it up for you it shouldn't be so bad. maybe the store if they have a meat dept. would do it. You could ask anyways.

And close your eyes while she eats it, she won't even notice you Shell, she will be thinking this is so yummy, thanks mom. :)

Clams and calf liver are what I had to eat to donate my own blood for my back surgery. The blood tech also suggested red wine, but that's probably not good for poultry.

You know something Casportpony....I missed this before! If Shell could find someone who brew beer or vints wine, she could give the bird the mash or dredges. A whole bunch of good in that!! I gave some to my pigs last summer and the chickens got into it as well. I had very happy animals and it didn't hurt them at all.

As I think about this, I think about the things she has eaten and blocked her crop/digestive tract and I wonder if some of those things you know like the excessive grit she ate that one time are sort of tearing bit by bit through her digestive tract, causing this irritation as it travels through....It's been a long haul though...you'd think all of the travelling of the "foreign bodies" would be done by now. Thinking out loud again and probably not even pertinent. Snipped from answer #55 posted by Bogtown Chick.

Okay, I think this may be more pertinent than you realized Bogtown.... I honestly missed the part about the excessive grit. Was there anything else she might have gotten into? I wonder if there may be another pouch somewhere else in the digestive system. She was scoped right? Any x-rays? Full body? I still don't think it's something to worry about. Honestly. If I thought it was bad I'd say so, I'm not known for my tact. Have you tried putting her into a warm bath? Letting her just stand there in the water up to mid chest? You will probably find out at the Vet's that it nothing and all of this is just well meaning conjecture but still just random thoughts being handed out. Liver, yogurt and a bath are all cheap and worth a shot. Can't hurt her either.

thanks guys lots of thoughts to process.
if i decide to give the liver ill chop it myself, im not squeemish or anything, just dont like the idea of exploiting one animal to help another but lets face it i want her to get better and desperate times call for desperate measures! ive given the tumeric along with her ginger garlic and cinemon today and tuna cat food, every tinned fish had salt! will try for fresh but couldnt get to tesco today as my daughter had a drama presentation. plus i had to drive way out to get the probiotic! got it now but may do the yoghurt until antibiotics come to an end then give the beryls. i want its full effect as its expensive stuff!
she had endoscopy , yes and a full body xray, it showed no blockages throughout the digestive tract and no large objects or masses, showed some grit but not in excess just a small normal amount and some 'bits' in the intestine which were impossible to identify but def small enough to pass without issue. didnt show any other 'pockets' but cant rule out that possibility from an xray.
no metal or such.
she seems well, eating well and energetic, after i did my normal late morning poop pick up in the run today i did not see any poop after that was pink, curious! the night time poop was pink, no change from before but daytime i saw no evidence of it. ive put the paper down tonight and am hopeful it may have stopped but im thinking its unlikely to stop suddenly i was expecting less and less then gradual stop. i dont expect white poop for the morning but am always hopeful!
her crop actually felt ok today, i may have paniced without cause, or so im hoping but im keeping close eye on it as always. i was hoping to try the alka seltzer flush with the next flair up and wont do that if her poops still bloody so hope it wont be needed anytime soon.
if poop remains bloody ive got a phone with the vet monday for advice on my next step and his opinion, i hope he dosnt want to continue antibiotics, shes had too many already and i dont like it!! i may refuse to give anymore and get her on the probiotic instead.
not sure about bathing her as its too cold here at the moment and i still consider her in a vunerable state but its something to keep on the back burner for sure.
fingers crossed for at least some improvement in the morning! ill keep you posted.
as always your thoughts, advice and support are greatly appreciated xxx
