If I had a job, I would bet my paycheck on it being a roo. You have a pullet and roo right there together, look at the major differences! Comb size, wattles, and color.

the coloring definitely look more like hen than rooster. and (s)he does have a slight black mark down the leg. the others have very distinct dark leg fronts though. hoping...

You will have to let us know how this one turns out. Take some full body pics. Another way is roos have pointed neck feather whereas hen neck feathers are more rounded.

Out of my 4 barred rock roos, only 1 has all yellow legs. The other 3 have black on their legs. My pullets just have more black on their legs.

You said they are mixed breed. Was RIR the father? If so, they are sex links and any barred chicks would be male (black SL = RIR over BR).

I'm guessing roo on that one despite the coloring, because of the comb and particularly the wattle development. I've been playing the same game for the past month trying to figure out if I have BSL cockerels or BR pullets. It's a tough game, but your boy makes it pretty easy.

It's not pure barred rock, so you can't sex it by light or dark. If both parents aren't barred, the roo offspring won't have two barring genes and will be darker barred, like a purebred hen. You also can't go by the leg color as they aren't pure bred.

That much comb and wattles on a ten week bird says rooster, even if it was a pure leghorn or similar large combed breed.

Ten weeks is too early to consistently have sex feathers.

My neighbors rooster(your boys twin) crowed at 5-6 months of age, maybe later. He has attacked his owners 4 times, not pretty. They are suppose to be a docile breed.

yeah, they are likely about a week apart in age, but not more than that. it's not likely that the other hens will have wattles that large in a week. bah! poor guy won't be able to stay at my house. i'm still going to hold on to a little hope for another few weeks.
