So we got 7 two day old sexed EE/Ameraucana chicks, are plan was to keep 2-3 and a close friend who wanted to stat raising chickens agreed to take the rest off our hands at around 14 weeks. They are now six weeks old and my GF's favorite appears to me to be a Roo. We're pretty familiar with Ameraucana having two currently and have raised hatches of them two or the last four years. The chicken in question..... we've never gotten one this color, but now at six weeks, looking at the pictures, I'm 99% sure its a cockerel. The others I'm confident in, but this one...Sadly my head and my eyes say...Roo.

What are your votes...

they say you can tell a roo by the neck feathers.....pointed ones says for sure its a roo...if they were rounded it's a girl! sorry.....never can tell until they get older but this one sure has the signs....

I'm not seeing a roo, but my eyes are getting old and the pics are small. Can you get a better (bigger) pic?

My understanding is that they are roos when they have red in their wings. The picture color is a little dark....does it have red in its wings?

No red in its wings so far, but it is noticeably bigger in every way than all the others and even the one that is close to it in size has smaller legs, a fuller tail and different neck feathers. Honestly...this week when the neck feathers really came in....that was the final thing that made me think Roo.... my GF will be sad. You never can tell from two day old chicks... sometimes you'll still get a boy even when they are sexed.

Larger pictures would be helpful. If it really is an Easter Egger, the coloring is mainly girl. The black on the hackle feathers can make them appear to be pointed. Close up comb pics and a closer pic of the bird can help

Here it is at 9 weeks now... it is about 15% larger than our other females and has really thick legs.... it's pea comb has three rows but is not very large or red.

I'm convinced it's a cockerel, my GF is still holding out that it will just be a big girl... opinions welcome since we've had many Ameraucanas/EE, but never one with this coloring... Roo or very large pullet?

I say it's a pullet. I think the color of the feathers on her neck make them look pointier than they are. I have on a little older that looks very similar.
