Yes, I would welcome all your advice from everyone about getting a mate for Peaches. Or should I find her a good home? Obviously I will have to live with Piotr's absence for a while and try to provide as much companionship to Peaches as I can, but I'm not a duck and it is obvious that she is very lonely.

Whichever you feel is the best course, either a companion or rehome where she will have companions... if possible though, I would look for a female companion for her rather than another drake... just considering her age and all...

Thank you to all of you for your kindness to me on Piotr's loss. I am very sad and unhappy and doubting the wisdom of my decision, but as the days pass, I'm sure this will ease. Now I need to think about how best to care for Peaches. She has a good home here, a good duck house and lots of good food and care, but what is best for her?

The good news, if there is such a thing as good news when losing a beloved pet, is that Peaches has become a bit friendlier to me. She was terribly skittish before, having come from the butcher shop, but her loneliness is making her come closer and quack appreciatively when I bring her treats. And I also discovered at U.C. Davis that ducks like grapes and I never knew that. Strawberries yes, tomatoes yes, but grapes I didn't know.
